Chapter 14: The One

Kaleb checked his mobile just as he entered the penthouse. He thought, ‘She did not reply.’

As he walked in, he muttered, “They should be asleep by now.”

It was already twelve in the evening when he arrived, coming from an entire day of work at the company. He first knocked on the door where Scarlett was supposed to rest, but after hearing no answer, he turned the knob. It was open and the air conditioning was switched off.

He smiled, guessing how she must be staying with his son at the moment.

Kaleb bathed and changed into his pajamas before making his way to Liam’s room. Only then did he find Scarlett, embracing Liam as they rested on his bed.

Walking to the side where Liam slept, he leaned over and pecked his cheek. He whispered, “Love you, Liam. Sleep tight.”

He sat on the edge of the bed, facing the headboard and cherishing the view. The way Scarlett held Liam in her arms, so protectively and lovingly, warmed his heart. He swore he found the one.
