Chapter Twenty-five

Whimpers, sobs, repeated soft cries. Kayla perched a hand on her forehead, the headache was unbearable. She wriggled under the bed covers, squeezing the duvet. This headache again! What was that loud beeping blowing up her brain? She pawed the nightstand and reached for her phone to stop the alarm but froze when she realized the alarm was reminding her of the court hearing. She turned off the alarm.

“Shit!” she cussed. 120 missed calls, sixty from Nora. How bad of a sleeper was she that she didn't hear the phone ring? Her mouth went agape… it was 7:49, meanwhile the hearing was at nine.

Kayla sprang up but fell back and groaned, soothing her head and whimpering. Her movement worsened the headache. Moving was an obstacle she pushed through to snap in some painkiller. The morning was a rush, she managed the pain and took a shower.
