~ JANE WILLIAMS ~

My uneasiness worsened when a voice in my head rang 'MATE'. Was this some sort of joke?

I was startled when Alpha Keegan pulled away from everyone around then turned to me.

“Mate?” He called with disgust laced in his tone then more attention was drawn to us as murmurings filled the hall.

What the hell was this? His expression, his word, as well as the strong scent from him that hit my nose confirmed the voice in my head— that he was my mate.  How could this be possible? This would’ve been good news if it was another Alpha, but not Alpha Keegan.

“I—”

“No way,” I cut him off, already quivering in fear again. Judging from his dangerous glare and gaze of irritation at me, I could tell he was going to reject me. I couldn’t let the pain of rejection be added to the numerous pain in my life already. Before he could reject me, I said, “I, Jane Williams, reject you, Alpha Keegan Gray, as my mate, forever...”

His eyes bugged out at my word, and the entire room was filled with gasps as the noise increased.

“How dare you?!” He spoke through gritted teeth, storming towards me.

Oh no. What had I done?

Before he reached me, Mrs. Bea appeared in front of me and sent a hard slap to my face. “How dare you reject the Alpha?!” She yelled while my hand went to my face.

I realized that the Gamma, Mason Kentwood, had indicated for Mrs. Bea to do that, to prevent the Alpha from whatever he’d have done to me. Thank goodness, else I could’ve been dead already.

Alpha’s wrath wasn’t hidden a bit. It was crystal clear that he wasn’t satisfied with the soap; he shoved Mrs. Bea aside to fix his furious gaze on me. “Who—”

“Take her away!” Mason ordered Mrs. Bea, holding Alpha back.

“You’ll definitely pay for this,” Alpha muttered to me.

I swallowed hard as Scarlett, the beta, dragged me out of the hall instead of Mrs. Bea.

Scarlett pulled me away from the hall till we were behind the staircase. She searched around, patently to ensure that no one was around before pulling me into a hug.

Oh, did I forget to mention that the Beta was my only friend? It was really strange and forbidden to associate with low-class werewolves like myself. Though she was as mean as every other member of the Dark Stone pack, she still had a soft spot for me in her heart. Our friendship was a secret to everyone else to avoid harming Scarlett's position.

“Thank you so much.” She smiled, pulling away to hold my shoulders while still subconsciously scanning around.

“Thank you?” I breathed out, my heart still beating faster.

“For rejecting Alpha Keegan. I just knew being friends with you isn't a mistake.”

“I don't understand.”

“Silly. You know how much I love Alpha Keegan, that's why you rejected him, right?” she lifted an eyebrow at me and I was forced to nod. “You're the best!” She hugged me again.

I wasn't interested in what she had just said; I was only scared for my life and wanted to lock myself up from Alpha's wrath.

***

The celebration had to be called off all because of me. I think Alpha couldn’t control his anger anymore, so it ended and everyone had to go home before the intended time.

Aware of the fact that the Alpha’s rage was coming for me, I ran to my room again. I knew I was in a big mess and had to leave here immediately.

“I can’t stay here any longer. There’s no way I’ll ever be safe.” I mumbled to myself, throwing the small belongings I had into a used plastic bag since I couldn’t afford to have a travel bag.

“Where the hell is her room?!” I heard Alpha Keegan yell, causing my heart to freeze in its cage.

“Oh my gosh! No way!” I quickly tied the plastic bag and rushed to lock the door.

The door knob twisted, but to no avail. “Open this damn door right this instant.” His voice roared, accompanied by the loud bangs against the frail door.

“Help me please.” I prayed, hurrying back to grab my plastic bag then ran to the window.

“Open the fucking door!” With the way he was hitting the door, it was certainly going to break anytime soon.

“Just open the door, please Jane.” I heard Scarlett plead; she was clearly scared for my life.

Without thinking twice, I opened the window and sat on it, throwing my leg over it.

A gasp escaped my throat when the door was kicked open and broke into pieces, revealing a rage-filled Alpha Keegan with Scarlett and Mason behind him.

“What do you think you’re doing?” He asked through gritted teeth, his hands were balled into fists, and his sweaty body had veins popping out.

“Uh… I–I’m sor–sorry, Alpha... I…” I stuttered.

“Don’t you dare leave.” He asserted, advancing towards me.

My entire body started to tremble. I stared out the window, only realizing that my room was on the third floor.

With every step he took closer to me, my heart froze even more. Jumping over could cause my death since I was so weak, but waiting here also meant that I was going to be dead meat. It was best if I died than faced the torture of Alpha Keegan.

I crossed my other leg over the window and was ready to jump.

“I said don’t go!” He growled then increased his pace.

As I was about to jump off, he grasped my hand and effortlessly pulled me up, grabbing me by my arm to prevent me from falling to the floor.

“Are you out of your mind? You want to die in the Dark Stone pack and ruin our name?!” He barked at me, his amber eyes were red with fury.

“I-I’m sorry.” I apologized, bowing my head. No omega had the right to stare at anyone's eyes.

“You’ve lost your mind, that’s no doubt. Do you think you can easily escape from here after committing the most terrible offense this pack has ever encountered?” He clicked his tongue, staring over his shoulder at Scarlett and Mason. “You both should ensure that this mutt never leaves this pack. She has to be stuck here to face her punishment. Let all the warriors and guards know this. She mustn’t even be allowed to leave the pack house.” He ordered. “Mason, inform Shane that he's in charge of punishing and watching her for now.” Shane?! He was the strongest and most evil warrior and guard Dark Stone pack had.

“Yes, Alpha.” They replied in unison.

“Now leave. This foolish omega needs to learn her lesson.” His words made my heart clench in fear.

Scarlett and Mason obediently took their leave, leaving me with the most dangerous person/wolf that ever exists.

“You silly thing. What were you thinking? How dare you reject the Alpha?” He held my other arm, moving closer to me.

I shrieked when he pushed me to the wall, his grip on my arms becoming even tighter.

“I promise you Alpha, I’m sorry. Please don’t kill me.” I still lowered my head, shuddering.

“Kill you?” I raised my head, catching his millisecond smirk. “No, you won’t die so easily. Your life as an Omega here is nothing compared to the torture you’ll experience. You wanted to pay back for the way you’ve been treated, right? You wanted me to feel embarrassed and feel the pain of rejection, right?” He asked rhetorically, but I shook my head. “I promise you that you’ll feel this rejection pain way worse than the rejected one ought to feel.” He pulled me to his chest, literally squeezing the air out of me.

“Please, Alpha, I made a big mistake.” How can my life be any worse than it already is? That was going to be way more terrible than dying. “Just take my life instead.” I pleaded, panting from being this close to him.

“Take your life? Never. My presence will frustrate your life till there’s no bit of air in your lungs again. This crime you’ve committed will backfire at you. You made a damn mockery of me. Therefore,

I, Alpha Keegan Gray, promise to make your life a living hell for as long as we both live. Your suffering has only begun. I’ll make sure you pay for this so no one else will try to mess with me in such a way ever again. I promise that you’ll not only accept me as your mate but will also bear the dreadful consequences of rejecting me as your mate. I vow to make you mine to crush your entire being.” He threw me from his grip, frowning as he turned around and stormed out of my room. “Deal with her. Make sure she receives no mercy and everyone is aware of her punishment.” I heard him say.

What on earth had I gotten myself into? Why didn’t I just let him reject me? Then I’d have run away. Why did the moon goddess decide to be so cruel to me?

I dropped to the floor and burst into tears.
