Destruction of The Seelie Court
Destruction of The Seelie Court
Author: Debra Lee

Prologue

My name is Lisha; I am Dark Fae; my grandmother, the woman I loved with all my heart, betrayed me and will never stop looking for me. There's a war coming, and I intend to be the one leading the battle so I can ensure she suffers for all the pain she has caused me. She has taken everything from me, and there is no way in hell I am willing to stay in hiding any longer.

When I was small, I used to sit on her knee in front of the fire while she told me stories of the night I was born. Allana always started the story by saying that after our Queen Belladonna's death over eighty years ago, the Unseelie had no royal bloodline left; that's why Allana stepped up to lead and protect us. On the night I was born, she held a meeting with the vampire king Andras and the werewolf King Damian. Allana knew that the Seelie princess Cassandra wanted to be Queen and would stop at nothing until she wore the crown. Allana tried to convince Andras and Damian to align with her to protect the remaining three realms. Neither king was willing to help Allana; each had reasons of their own, which they kept to themselves.

Allana never spoke of her past; I knew nothing of my father or our real world. I learned when I grew older that our lives are never really our own; we beg, plead, and scrape by trying to forge a small amount of happiness for ourselves, only to have it snatched repeatably away from us. There was a time when I was happy; it felt like a lifetime ago. Only five short years ago, I was ripped from my home and given to the Seelie queen to do with me as she pleased.

I will never forget the night he took me from my home; I was only fourteen years old; I woke in the middle of the night and heard my beautiful mother screaming in pain, then nothing. I knew someone had killed her, but I didn't know who or why. I feel rough hands grabbing me, dragging me out of my warm bed and into the cold night. The air around me is unnatural, choking me, and very dark. I know we are still in the Unseelie realm. I can feel the land, trees, and life calling me in pain.

A voice sends chills down my spine when he whispers,

“Be quiet, don't scream or struggle, or I will kill you.”

Just before my emotions overwhelmed me, I lost consciousness.
