Bad Morning

Shirley's POV

“Shirley can you wake up please, we don’t have an entire day just to wait for you to wake up. My husband and children are going to be late all because of you.”

That was the sound of my mother. She shouted my name every morning and I was used to it.

“I am coming mom.” I reply as I jump out of my bed. I woke up late today. I was the one who prepares breakfast each morning because my mother hated cooking. I just never understood why.

I was the eldest daughter of the family. I am almost turning eighteen and in my final year in high school. I go to Greenland highschool which is near our home.

I live with my parents Travis Williams and Hannah. He is a lawyer and is famous because of his job, mom is the owner of a restaurant in town. We are well off I can say. I have two siblings, a girl and a boy, the girl is called Olivia. I can say she is the apple of my parents eyes, especially my mom.

She is the second born of the family and she has long black hair, her lips are slim and pink, and her eyes are big with long eyelashes. She is so pretty.

Our age gap is alarming. I am turning eighteen while she is only seven years old. It is an eleven years age gap.

The young boy is called Lucas and he is six years old, a difference of one year from Olivia. Lucas resembles Olivia; you can even confuse them as twins. They are almost the same age too. I am sure if they were of the same gender even I could have trouble differentiating them.

My parents are in their late forties. My mom has long black hair like Olivia’s and the two really look alike. You can tell she takes after her. She is a bit heavy but not tall. She has a hot temper and sometimes I fear her. Her face has started to somehow wrinkle but not that much because she covers the lines with makeup and no one would ever notice.

My dad’s face somehow started to wrinkle too. He has a long beard which is well maintained. It makes him look so handsome. He is tall but not that tall, both of them still look so cute. I love them dearly.

I came out of my room and the whole family is there seating at the dining table waiting for me. Usually they would find breakfast ready.

“Morning dad, morning mom” I greet them but no one replys.

“Who are you to keep us hungry like this, you have become so lazy these days stupid girl.” My dad says to me.

He was very harsh to me all the time, I wonder why. He loved the young ones but not me. I was their eldest child and he should love us equally.

“I am sorry dad, I overslept, it will not repeat itself again.” I say to him as I immediately start making coffee. In fifteen minutes time I am done and I served them with eggs.

“This food tastes horrible, when will you learn how to cook properly.” My mom says. I find myself almost crying. Why were they so harsh to me this morning? At least they should have appreciated me. They had woken up early but they could not even prepare the simple meal themselves. Everything was just me.

“So sorry mom, I was in a hurry that is why. I have a project at school I have not finished. I want to run and finish it before classes start.” I say to her.

“Tomorrow when you cook breakfast like this you will eat it alone” my dad say. I just kept quiet. Let them say whatever they want. Then it was quiet. The whole family ate their breakfast quietly until it was finished.

"Olivia, Lucas hurry and go to the car, I am going to be late. I have a client this early morning.” My dad says.

"Okay daddy." They reply in unison. My siblings took their bags, waved at me and hurriedly went to the car.

He dropped my siblings every day at school while I had to walk each day. Most of my school mates owned cars and others bicycles. We were rich but my parents never considered me at all. My mom had a car too but there is not a day she gave me a ride. It was like I would make their cars dirty or something.

They all left their plates at the table and went away. I too was going to leave mine there when mom shouted at me.

“Where are you going young lady, who do you will do the cleaning? clean the plates first”.

“I will wash them later mom, I am going to be late for school, I told you I have to finish my project.” I say to her,

"Then you should have woken up early and did your duties. I will not repeat myself. Just do what you are supposed to do." She says to me harshly.

I decided to obey her and clean the plates first before I taking a shower. I knew I was going to be late because there was only an hour left before the bell rang.

“I will not make it” my heart kept saying. The teacher will be so angry at me. I did not get a chance to finish the other night because I had a really terrible headache and I slept early after finishing my chores. I was used to them anyway.

I remember my mom came and found me lying on the bed. She almost whipped me up simply because I did not wash my sibling’s uniforms. She was my mother anyway so she knew what was best for me. It was not my responsibility to question her; I simply obeyed.

I finish the dishes and go to the shower immediately. The school was like fifteen minutes walk from our home and I was left with only 45 minutes to prepare myself or I will not get there in time.

I was in high school so we wore home clothes. Thanks to mum and dad I had so many of them. I had to look good anyway. I came out of the shower and chose my blue, short dress . It was a tight one and it showed my curves. I apply some mascara and lipstick and I look perfect.

I take my black boots, my bag and storm out of the house. I was left with only twenty minutes I had to rush.
