The escape

Shirley's POV

Kelly and I have agreed that we will go to the party tonight. The problem is I don't have those sexy clothes to go with and I am afraid of my parent’s reaction when I tell them I want to go out. They have been so strict with me every time. But I have set my mind on going so I will just not ask for permission.

"Kelly, I want to go to the party but I don't have clothes" I tell Kelly.

I am so embarrassed my parents never bought me those sexy clothes they always wanted me to be a nice girl.

"I will lend you mine, don't worry." Kelly assured me. At least I had her as my friend and she also had a lot of beautiful and sexy clothes. I know she will choose a nice one for me. She went to parties all the time. I guess her parents were never that strict.

I was so excited and nervous. How was it going to be for me? I never even drank alcohol my whole life. But Kelly was going to be with me so I don't have to worry about that.

After school I get home faster than ever. My parents are used to being late sometimes, especially my mother. So I was the one who made dinner for everyone here in the house every single day. I was used to it anyway. I was the one who made sure my siblings have done their homework, have eaten and are clean. All my parents did when they got home was eat, play with my siblings then sleep. It was like I was a nanny to them.

"Shirley we are home" Lucas said when they were both home. A family friend always dropped them from school in the evening because he lived near our home.

"Come and kiss me, you little children. I missed you guys" I tell them. They all rush and hug me. I kiss them both on the forehead.

"I want something to eat Shirley. I am very hungry." Olivia said. Luckily there was some milk in the fridge and I served them with some leftover cake.I then cooked dinner, fed them and led them to sleep.

"Will you read me a story Shirley?" Olivia asked me. She was used to being read a story every day before she slept.

"Yes baby. Which story do you want?" I ask.

"I want that one about a prince and a princess" she demanded.

This girl was something and I loved her. "Yes baby I will read to you that one don't worry. Once upon a time...... And they lived happily ever after" before I could even finish she was already asleep. "Good night baby" I say to her as I cover her up and kiss her.

Until this time my parents have not yet arrived and it’s getting late. I really don't want to be late to the party. Kelly was going to leave me behind when I make her late for sure.

I want them to find me awake so I could excuse myself to go to sleep and nobody will ever suspect that I got out of the house through my bedroom window. I take my books and pretend that I am studying. After five minutes I hear a car engine from outside. I jump up with happiness, finally they are here. They have really kept me waiting.

"Hello mom and dad" I greet them at the door. I take my dad’s briefcase and my mom’s handbag and place them in their bedroom.

"How was your work today mommy?" I ask with a lot of concern.

"It was good Shirley. And how are the kids. I have missed them greatly" she asks. She did not even ask me how my day was.

Sometimes I felt like my parents never cared for me. It was always about her small kids and I was not in the list of her kids. It just felt bad. "They are fine mom. They are asleep already. Do you want me to serve you your dinner?"

She nods and I serve her and dad. I place a jug of water and two glasses each one for them. I excuse myself saying I am sleepy and that I will collect the utensils tomorrow.

Luckily they agree and I literally run towards my bedroom. I take my coat and jump out of my bedroom window. I take care not to make any noise. I text Kelly if she is out of the house already and she says she was waiting for me.

My phone was small and it was not a smart phone so I just used it for texting. It would be a shame if anyone in my school saw me using it. My parents had promised to buy me a new phone when I was out of high school. Kelly on the other hand had a good and big phone. It was her birthday gift from her parents. She was the envy of the school anyway.

I get to Kelly's place and she is there all dressed up. Her short jeans skirt with a white shirt and a leather coat. She wore a black lipstick which made her extremely beautiful. Her parents were in the living room with her other siblings. It was their movie night together. I never had that in our home. My parents were just concerned with their jobs and not family. Family was the last thing in their list.

"Welcome Shirley, how are you?" Kelly’s mom greets me. I had come to their home since I started my friendship with her daughter so they were so familiar with me.

“Thanks ma'am, I am fine, what about you.” I said while I greet the whole family. I later join Kelly in the bedroom so that she could lend me her clothes.

“Does this dress suit me Kelly” I ask her after I had worn her pink short tight dress. It was really pretty but I thought it was too short for me to wear. I was feeling embarrassed, how was I going to walk with it?

“It is pretty Shirley and it suits you perfectly better than me.” She encouraged me. I decide it is perfect for me. I apply some mascara and pink lipstick to match my dress. I wear my boots and coat and I was ready to party, my first party actually.

“Bye mom and dad, I am going now.” Kelly shouted at her parents. She was so free with them and I felt envious of her. Mine were so harsh that I could not dare shout at them like that.

“Take care baby.” Her mom replys. What a sweet family, in my head I just wished I was born here.

“Let’s go Shirley, we will be late.” Kelly led me out of her house.
