“Mummy, daddy is opening his eyes” I heard my daughter Ayla whisper.

“Shh, baby girl, daddy won’t want too much noise around him” Eliana told our little one. I could already picture Ayla closing her mouth as she looked at me. I opened my eyes to close them again, the light blinding my vision momentarily.

“I’m sorry, love, let me dim down the lights” Eliana said gently. She dimmed the lights down and I fought to open my eyes again, and having to fight the urge to close them again, I looked at her, my son and daughter who sat on my bed beside me.

“Daddy?” Xavier whispered as low as he could. I smiled and raised my hand to his cheek, gently rubbing it before pulling him to me. Ayla laid on my other side, hugging me. I smiled at their concern seeing as both were careful when it came to my bandaged chest, and seeing Eliana looking down at me, I nodded at her, raising my hand toward her.
