SAD BEGGININGS

AMBER’S POV

I couldn’t believe just how cold my father was, sure he was the alpha of the pack but why did he have to bring that to us…his family. He was so domineering and I often wondered why my mother didn’t break the mate bond when she had the chance to. He hated me, he hated me for what I was, and hated me because I was a girl instead of the boy that he wanted. He hated me because I was a hybrid, you see my mother was a vampire and when she was mated to my father she got disowned by her coven. She told me that my father accepted and loved her just the way she was at first, but things took a turn for the worst as soon as she gave birth to me. My father had sought the help of witches just to make sure that I was not only a boy but also because he didn’t want me to be a hybrid. I hated him for hating and rejecting me.

I could never understand what his issue with my mother was, but lately, he was calling her a weakling and that was what had led us to the events of today.

“How could you just kill your mate just like that?” I demanded answers from the man I was supposed to be calling my father but to me, he was just a stranger who didn’t care about me or my mother. If he cared about her or me he wouldnt be here trying to strangle the life right out of her.

“Stay out of my business, else I will kill you too” he spat as he refused to let go of my mother’s neck, I hated him. I hated him for the fear he was putting in me, I was afraid of male wolves because of him.

“You are killing her,” I said jumping onto his back and somehow he managed to shake me off him like I was nothing but a feather.

“Your turn will come,” he said and I saw a vein-popping up on his forehead

“Save yourself…” my mother said as her voice broke and I knew she was dying and I had to do something.

I took my father’s gun and just aimed it at him and hoped for the best. He normally didn’t keep a loaded gun in the house and I knew this would end badly for me if it turned out that the gun was not loaded. However, it seemed that damned moon goddess was on my side because as soon as I pulled the trigger I heard a loud bang, and then there was pure silence in the room. My father… the great Alpha Robert got up from on top of my mother and turned around to face me blood oozing from his mouth. Fear filled every part of my body as I stared at the hatred in his eyes, he was staggering toward me, and just as he was about to reach me he smiled and fell to the floor.

I just knew that was the end of one nightmare and the beginning of another. I had just killed the alpha of the most feared pack in the western territory, no one was going to care that he had died at the hands of his own daughter. And certainly, no one was going to care about what he had done to me and my mother, the torture and the abuse we had endured ever since I was born. All that was going to matter was the fact that I killed him and for that, I was going to be beheaded. I was going to be an outcast in the wolf community and I was never going to be accepted to join any pack because I would be deemed untrustworthy. I was never going to be able to find my mate, not that I cared much about that but my mother had always told me that she wished I could give her grandkids one day. Then again she was no longer here to disapprove or approve of anything I did. Finding a mate was the last thing on my mind.

Before I even had the chance and the time to react to what had just happened I heard the commotion outside my parent’s room as the guards tried to get in. They had heard the gunshot and they were coming to check what was going on. It wasn’t like they didn’t know that my father was abusive to my mother, they knew that fact all too well and yet they always chose to turn a blind eye to everything that was happening. This was why I hated wolves, they were very selfish and I wished that I didn’t have a wolf. I wished that I wasn’t half-vampire and half-wolf because then I would know which team I was playing for.

First, the guards tried knocking on the door but when they realized that no one was making moves to open the door they started trying to kick the door down. I only had a few minutes to react but I didn’t know what to do. I could run away and save my life, leaving my mother here. I ran to my mother to check on her but her eyes were just blank. I realized that my father had injected something into her neck before he started strangling her. It was as if she was dying a little too slow for him and he couldn’t wait to eliminate her.

I got up and wiped my tears off my eyes, this was no time for me to fall apart, my mother’s last words were for me to save myself and that was just what I had to do. I hated what I was about to do but I knew that this was the only way for me to escape this cruel pack. I had always wished I could get away. I had always wished for an opportunity to escape but my mother had been the one thing that was holding me back and keeping me from leaving. But now I had no reason to say here, I had to go.

I didn’t even take off my clothes before turning into my wolf form, I turned and jumped out of the balcony and hit the ground running. No one could ever dream of catching up with me, I was the fastest in this pack and that was because I wasn’t like all the other wolves. I knew that some of the pack warriors were going to try to catch me but I was ready to kill anyone who tried to get in my way.

I promised myself one thing, one thing I promised my mother and that was that I was going to avenge her. It could take me years but eventually, I was going to be able to get my revenge on the pack that had watched as their alpha took my mother form me.
