Where I belong

It didn’t even take long for the vampires to sniff me out and find me, it was almost as if they had been waiting for me. As they escorted me to the elders I had to keep reminding myself that I was no longer the hybrid that I had been for most of my life, if anything the wolf side of me was dead and gone, it had died with my mother back in my father’s pack. Here I was nothing more than a vampire that had a lot of special qualities. Like I could walk in the sun and most things that affected vampires didn’t affect me. I hoped I could use all that to my advantage. If anyone was going to ask the reason why I had all these superpowers at my disposal I was simply going to tell them that I had been like that ever since I was born, I was just going to make up the story as I go.

Just like any other pack or clan, I knew that vampires probably had their own ways of extracting information from intruders but I was counting on Iyana’s spell to make that task impossible for them.

I was led to the elder's tower where I had to wait for them to come so that they could question me and decide on what they wanted to do with me. I was hoping that I could convince them that I could be useful to this clan, I was going to be the best wolf hunter that they had ever had. In killing my mother my father had turned me into his kind’s worst nightmare and I was going to make it my life mission to get even for my mother’s death.

“Who are you and why are you here?” the first of the three elders elder asked

“My name is Amber and I seek refugee in your clan,” I said wasting no time in making my intentions clear, the last thing I wanted was for these elders to think I was a threat and that I was here on a mission.

“Something is different about her,” the second elder said “she is not like us”

“Where are you from?” the first elders asked again and I hesitated before I answered, I decided to play it safe.

“I don’t know where I am from,” I said as I put on my best performance in an attempt to convince them that I was who I said I was

“What do you mean you don’t know where you are from?” the third elder asked

”I woke up on the side of the road and I stumbled upon your territory, the only thing I can remember is that I was fleeing something,” I said and this seemed to get their interest and I could hear them whisper amongst themselves.

This was the moment that I discovered that even though Iyana had suppressed my wolf, somehow I had managed to retain some of the abilities that I had. I still had some sort of powers that I inherited from my horrible father and this was proving to be working to my advantage.

“She must be from the human government facility,” the second elder said “I can't even read her mind and that indicates that she is more advanced than us” he added

“That could be of great use to us…especially with the wolf problem that we have” the first elder who now seemed to be their leader said and the other two nodded

“I don’t know what wolf problem you have, but I promise you I can help you with that. I am strong enough to help you in your fight. All I ask is that you grant me, refugee, in your clan” I begged

“Very well” these guards will take you to the guest room while we contemplate your proposal. We will meet here with you tomorrow morning and then we will tell you what our final decision is” the third elder said as they all got up and walked out of the room that we had met in.

The guards led me out of the huge hall and led me into a long hallway that had a lot of doors and I assumed these doors had a lot of vampires that were a lot like me. I kind of felt out of place, I felt like I didn’t belong here but I chose to ignore that feeling. If I didn’t belong here then where did I belong? This was the only place I could call home now and I had to work as hard as I could to fit in. I had to keep in mind that if I made one mistake they would probably kill me and as powerful as I was, I knew that I could never be able to stand against hundreds of vampires in a fight and all on my own.

The guards finally opened the last door for me and after I got in they locked it behind me. I sighed, at least this was a lot better than the treatment I would have gotten if I had been caught as a rogue wolf back in wolf lad AKA my father’s territory. I swear the man thought that his pack was the only one that existed in the world and thanks to him, I was now painting all wolves with the same brush. None of them were trustworthy and none of them cared about anyone but themselves…as far as I was concerned all wolves were the same and I was willing to participate in efforts to make the world a better place by helping the vampires kill them.

After a few minutes, I heard a light knock on the door, I was puzzled as to why anyone would knock before they entered a room that I had been locked in. There was no way I could open the door from the inside. The door opened and a slim little girl walked in carrying a tray with a glass of blood in it. I was immediately disgusted by it but I tried not to show it.

“They sent me to give you this,” she said in a sweet voice that just melted my heart

“And what is your name?” I asked her and she raised her head and I was met by beautiful blue eyes

“My name is Leah,” she said blushing. I couldn’t understand why they would send a little girl to come and serve me if they didn’t trust me enough to keep me in an unlocked room.

“Thank you so much,” I said taking the tray and placing it on top of the dresser. When I turned around to say something else to the little girl she was gone, I guess she didn’t trust me just as the elders didn’t.

I looked at the thick red liquid that was in the glass that had been handed to me by the little girl and I almost puked. I didn’t even want to know where the blood came from, I just couldn’t imagine myself drinking it but if I didn’t drink it what excuse would I have for that.

I took the glass and brought it to my lips trying to muster up the courage to take a sip, however as soon as I brought the glass to my sensitive nose I was immediately revolted. I couldn’t stand the smell of it and judging by the smell of it, it was human blood. This made me wonder where these vampires hunted for humans, it made me wonder whose responsibility it was to drain the blood of these humans. There was only one thing I didn’t like about being here so far and that was the fact that the vampires killed humans for survival. This was an activity that I was going to have to refuse and I had the perfect excuse fr it.

“I was simply going to tell the vampires that I was revolted by the smell of the blood and it triggered my memory to come back. I would tell them I distinctly remembered it because instead of blood we were given human food and that was all I was able to eat. I knew vampires couldn’t eat human food but I was sure there would be a place where I could get decent food otherwise I was surely going to starve.

I laid on the bed facing up and the memories of everything that had happened to me back in my father's pack came back. I was shattered by the memory of my other lying lifeless on the ground next to my father. The thought of never seeing or hearing my mother’s voice ever again just broke me apart. I curled up into a ball and wept, I was all alone in this world and it was all because of a wolf that was supposed to protect me. My mother was dead because of a wolf that was supposed to protect her, if a wolf couldn't even love or protect its own mate then what was the purpose of a mate? why did my mother have to leave the comfort of her own home just to be abused and killed in a home that was supposed to shower her with love?

It was as if my father’s pack hated my mother from the day he brought her home and he didn’t even try to do something about it. I believed that as the alpha he had the power to call them out and discipline anyone who disrespected or mistreated what was supposed to be his queen. But from what my mother told me, he had only contributed to the problem. I was broken by my mother’s death but at the same time I had found my strength in my pain and even if it took me all my life to get revenge for my mother, I was willing to die trying.
