A solo mission

CHAD’S POV

My parents had been gone on a business trip for too long now and I was getting restless. They had never been gone for this long without communicating with any of us that were back at the packhouse. I tried finding out from the elders what the delay was but none of them had an answer for me, I was beginning to think that they knew something that I didn’t know and that they were hiding something from me. I really hoped that meeting with them tonight would help shed some light for me on what was going on with my parents.

"I hoped you called me here to tell me what is happening with my parents,” I said as I took my seat next to the throne, a seat that was meant for my father who was the Alpha king. Seeing it empty and vacant kind of scared me and I hoped it wouldn’t stay like that for very long.

“As a matter of fact my prince that is exactly why we have called you here,” the first elder said

“So where are they?” I asked just as the beta came into the meeting hall with my father’s robe and crown and placed it on the chair. Soon after that, the omegas came in with a small pot that probably had wolfsbane in it. I could see exactly what was happening here, I knew what all this meant.

”And you thought this was the perfect way to let me know that my parents have died?” I asked, I really felt like breaking down and crying but my father had drilled into my head that an alpha was never to show emotion because it would be interpreted as a weakness.

“Chad… you need to..” I cut the Beta off immediately

”You need to show me some respect and start referring to me with the right title, I am the prince of all of the wolf land and if my father is dead that makes me the alpha king,” I said without even wasting my time looking at him.

“let's just get this over and done with, I need to rest,” I said and took the wolfsbane from the Omegas and gulped it down. I couldn't help noticing that the Omega that had handed me the wolfsbane was very fit and sexy too. I winked at her and she blushed, I was certainly going to be seeing her later on tonight.

"What else do I have to do?” I asked the stunned five elders and they couldn’t even speak. they had probably been expecting me to start weeping and asking for time to mourn my father, but my very own father had been preparing me for this ever since I was born.

“If that is all then you are all dismissed, I will let you know when I need you” I dismissed them but none of them stood up, they just remained glued to their chairs as if I hadn't just been addressing them

“This is not how that works,” the second elder said, “you don’t even have a mate” he added and I reached for the gun that I always carried with me, and without warning, I put a bullet in between his eyes.

“Does anyone object?” I asked and they all shook their heads “see now we have to replace him” I added as this was such an inconvenience to me, the last thing I wanted was to waste my time searching for his replacement.

“And just for the record, I don’t want a mate. As a matter of fact, I don’t need one. I have all the women I need right here” I said winking at the Omega that had caught my eye earlier and motioned for her to come and sit on my lap. She did so without hesitation and I hadn't expected her to, every woman in wolf land wanted a piece of me, and those that had gotten a piece of me were not willing to share it with anyone. However, I was no animal and I wasn’t to be caged in a cage by a woman simply because of a mate bond, not when I could have any woman I wanted.

After this, the elders walked out of the meeting room one by one while I caressed the girl that was on my thigh. I didn’t even care to know her name because she was only going to be with me for one night.

“Really chad, is this what you chose to do on your first day as king?” my best friend Jeff asked

“I chose to do whatever the fuck I want just as I always have,” I said kissing the honey that was sitting on my lap "and if you must know he must also be fed and he doesn't eat meat" I snickered and he rolled his eyes as I pointed at my penis.

“Can you at least take this to your room?” he asked and I shook my head

“did you not just hear what I said to you?” I asked him and I gave him my full attention as he wanted and he raised his hands in surrender and walked away. Jeff knew me well enough to know when I didn’t want to be messed with, I had just found out my parents had died and even though I didn’t know how they had died I already knew that they were killed.

All I wanted was to be with this fit omega so that I wouldn't be seen crying and that was what I felt like doing after realizing that my parents were not coming back home. But I had promised my father that I would be strong when this day came, it didn’t help though that they had both died on the same day just like my mother had always predicted.

AMBER’S POV

I had been spending a lot of time with Cain, it was a lot more time than I wanted to be spending with him in all honesty. Elder Marcus had become more like a friend to me and that was one thing I was grateful for, the fact that one of the elders now looked at me like one of his daughters after only being here for a couple of months was an achievement for me. It made me feel all the more welcomed and valuable to the coven.

“Amber, I would like you to join us tonight for the meeting we are having with the elders” elder Marcus said and I was a little caught off guard by his request. In the couple of months that I had been here, I had learned that important decisions concerning the coven were made during these meetings and no one except the elders was ever invited.

”I would love to join you but I don’t want to rub anyone the wrong way, I mean I just got here,” I said

“I know that but you have in the few months you have been here you have proven yourself and you have become quite an asset to this coven” he complimented me, I hadn't been really aiming for making a name for myself in the coven because I had a mission of my own.

“Thank you very much for saying that,” I said and he nodded

“Just make sure you come after dinner, it's very important,” he said as he walked out of my room.

I spent a lot of time in my room because it was the only place where I was completely comfortable. Of course, Cain and a few other vampires had been very welcoming towards me but there were a few exceptions like Sophia. She was one vampire who hadn't taken a liking to me at all and neither had her friends, although I felt that her friends had just inherited the beef I didn't really care what they thought of me. At first, I couldn’t understand why Sophia hated me so much, but that was until I realized that she merely hated me because she wanted Cain and he didn’t want her. He wanted to be with me and despite the fact that I had chosen to ignore his advances all the time I could see that he just wasn’t getting the message he was very persistent and Sophia took notice of this. Instead of expressing her feelings for Cain like someone who was normal would, she chose to attack me instead.

She always went out of her way to not only make me feel out of place but to also make fun of me and humiliate me even for the little things. She was the daughter of elder Emily and I was convinced that her mother shared the same dislike as her daughter for me. This didn’t bother me at all because Sophia was not my friend and I didn’t want her to be my friend either. I just made it a point that I always mind my own business and remained in my room unless I was called or unless there was a mission that I was being sent on. There was no way that I could avoid spending time with the man that she had chosen as her mate because he simply refused to leave my side, Cain was literally with me everywhere because he insisted on being by my side.

I had made a name for myself here in the coven, as the most ruthless hunter that had ever been part of the hunting vampires. Whenever we visited these little packs I made it a point that there was no wolf left alive and on the rare occasions that a wolf would escape, I always made sure that I would chase them until I caught them and brought them back so that they could face their fate. I didn’t feel sorry for the wolves because I knew that if they were given a chance they would do the exact same thing to me, they would kill me without even thinking twice simply because of what I was.

This was what made elder Marcus adopt me as his own daughter and he was treating me like a father. He cared for me deeply and I could see that by the way he treated me and made sure I always had everything that I needed. Although some of the vampires felt like I was weird and even treated me in such a way, elder Marcus had simply accepted that I was different and embraced my differences.

After I had my dinner I headed to the meeting hall where I was supposed to attend the meeting with the elders. I didn’t know what this was about but going with what elder Marcus had said, I knew that this was a very important meeting. Even the elders from the other coven were here today and that is how I knew that this was important. What stood out to me was the fact that I was the only hunter that was here, Cain wasn’t here like I had expected him to be. I expected him to be here because elder Marcus rarely separated the two of us whenever a matter that involved the hunters was being discussed and I assumed that this meeting was about that.

I took the seat that I set for me next to the twelve elders and wanted to be told what this meeting was about and why I had been brought here. The first order of business was discussing how the hunters had been successful in neutralizing the small wolf packs that had been forming around the coven, and that ever since Cain and I had been in charge there had never been an invasion of wolves in the coven. I could see elder Marcus beaming with pride as he spoke about how his children had been doing well. He called me his daughter countless times and the other elders seemed to be confused as to why he was referring to me as his daughter when they knew very well that he didn’t have a daughter and elder Marcus finally picked up too. He explained that he took me as his own daughter because of how close we had become and how Cain and I were also close. I silently wished he knew his son didn’t see me as his sister but as a potential partner. Maybe he would be able to convince his son that his son and I could never be together.

“Now coming to the reason why we called this meeting” Elder Marcus changed the subject swiftly from explaining his relationship with me to the reason why we were all gathered here, this had been the moment I had been waiting for

”As you all know that thanks to Cain and Amber, all the small packs have been neutralized. Another thing that I would love to let you know is that Cain has single handheld managed to kill the wolf king and queen and as we speak to you today, the wolf lands lies vulnerable with no leader” Elder Marcus said and I wondered what that had to do with me. I was literally sitting in this meeting feeling like I was a mango in an orange tree and very out of place.

“They are vulnerable” Emily hissed in excitement and I almost rolled my eyes, I really didn’t like the old woman

“Yes they are and this is the perfect time for us to strike the northern pack,” Marcus said and I remembered that the northern pack was rumored to be ruled by the most ruthless alpha who would kill vampires the way I had been killing wolves. If truly he had died the way that elder Marcus was explaining it then it meant that the wolves were going to seek revenge. I wanted to point this out but I bit my tongue and made a mental note to bring this up with elder Marcus after this meeting.

“And that is the reason why we think we should attack them,” elder Sebastian said and the rest of us listened carefully. If they wanted to attack the most powerful pack in all of the wolf kingdom they had to have a better plan than invading and hoping to catch the wolves by surprise.

“But won't they be expecting us?” asked the other elder who was coming from the neighboring coven “I mean surely they would have replaced their alpha by now” she added

“They have indeed, but what threat is that boy to us and because he is a boy raging with hormones we have the perfect weapon here,” elder Marcus said looking at me and I looked at him wondering what he was getting at

“I don’t understand,” Emily said and I was on the same page with her, elder Marcus had to explain this

“I think we will all agree that Amber here is a very beautiful woman, she will be the perfect one to go in there and get information for us,” he said, “we will be sending her as a spy” he added and I shook my head but he smiled as if my head shake was a nod.

“No,” I said but they continued discussing amongst themselves as if I wasn’t even in the room. Did I have no say in the matter?

I knew I was strong enough to fight anyone and kill them but what if they realized that I was a hybrid? What if they killed me thinking that I was a human? In order to go back to the wolf kingdom, I would have to give up my wolf side and that could put me in danger. There was no way I could agree to this without risking my life.
