I was working my ass off at the wedding venue when a car stopped in the driveway. At first, I didn’t give enough attention to seeing who was my guest; I was already in the middle of an argument with the florist, who promised me they could arrange lilies even when it wasn’t the season. It was last night when one of my staff called to inform me that there were no lilies on the list that she got from the florist. I would have dialed the florist’s number that very moment, but I failed to do that. I should have, but I couldn’t, not when your child was weeping along with shrieking, which was frightening enough for the mother in me.

Although Joy had a fever, from the last she was crying, refusing to eat food, and drinking water. Although she wasn’t crying or roaring like a lion this morning, I just couldn’t leave her alone with any stranger. So, here she was with me, sleeping quietly on my chest in the baby carrier.
