Chapter 21

"HEY, are you okay?" Clyde asked when he glanced at Callie from the passenger seat. He noticed that her eyes were fixed on the road ahead of them and that she appeared to be deep in thought.

Callie turned to face him with a small smile. "I'm just concerned about something. But don't worry, it's nothing serious."

"Did something happen last night after I left?" Clyde asked after a nod.

Clyde noticed Callie's hesitation as a result of what he said. Callie tilted down and played with her fingers.

"Nothing," Callie lied, looking out the window.

Clyde frowned, becoming even more intrigued. "You're keeping something from me."

Callie returned her gaze to him, guilt on her face and sadness in her eyes.

"It's written all over your face," he continued.

Callie sighed and cracked a weak smile. "There is someone I want you to meet."

He grinned and snorted. "Is that a boy?" he jokingly inquired.

Callie laughed at his response. He smiled as well because her face had finally brightened.
