Chapter Two

I unlock the door to room number 105. I think this is my room.

I walk in and my eyes go wide. My hotel room isn't a room at all. It's a freaking apartment.

"This isn't mine, Mr. Owen," I exclaimed. "I must have accidentally switched the keys."

"No, this is yours. Mine is down the hall," he replied.

"But . . ."

"Is there a problem?"

"I'm pretty sure I booked a smaller and cheaper room for myself," I stated.

"I upgraded you. I want you to be on the same floor as me if I need you. Is there a problem?" He asked again.

Why did he even do that? I thought that was my job . . .

"Of course, there's no problem! This room is fantastic. Thank you so much!" I smiled widely.

"You don't have to thank me." He glanced at his Rolex. "My business meeting shouldn't last long. Let's meet up for dinner in, let's say . . . an hour?"

"Sure, that sounds great." Wow. I'm having dinner alone with Adam.

He seems to have read my mind, because he promptly adds. "Of course we won't be alone. My friend Paul Winston will be joining us.

"Oh . . . Okay. That's fine," I answered.

"Great. Get dressed, and I'll see you in an hour."

"Okay, I'll see you then!" I couldn't help but admire his ass as he walked away.

Damn! That man is sex on a stick.

I shake my head. I really need to stop crushing on him!

HALF AN HOUR LATER

After I take a shower, I go through my options of what to wear this night. Adam told me to dress up, so I should wear something amazing, shouldn't I?

I finally selected a purple long sleeved lace that stopped mid thigh.

I'm sure Adam will be impressed. Just as I'm done putting on my make up, there's a knock on the door.

"Come in, it's unlocked," I called out.

Adam walks in, his face unreadable. He scans my body from head to toe, and for a moment, he says nothing.

"Like what you see?" I smirked.

"Are you asking for my approval, Payton?" He drawled, a small smile playing on his lips.

"Maybe I am," I countered.

"What a remarkable trait in an assistant. I knew I hired you for a reason," he chuckled.

"Maybe so, but you still haven't answered my question," I probed.

He gives a suggestive smile. "You look astonishing." The look he gives me makes me tingle between my thighs. I glance at the mirror one last time, trying to compose myself, then head for the door.

"How was your meeting?" I asked, walking towards him.

"Not exactly memorable," he replied with a frown.

"I'm sorry to hear that."

He reaches his hand out towards me expectantly. Although surprised at the intimacy, I put my hand in his.

He clears his throat. "Your key card, Payton."

I retract my hand and immediately dig through my purse for the pesky card, blushing. When I finally find it and lock the door, he smiles.

"Now, how about we make the rest of the evening memorable?"

********

Two hours later; I put my fork down on the almost empty plate and sigh with content.

"This restaurant is amazing! I've never been to anything like this before," I exclaimed.

Adams friend, Paul, stops with his fork midway to his mouth. He glances at Adam. "Adam, you've never taken your beautiful assistant to a fancy restaurant before?"

"Why would I?" Adam responded. He picks up a napkin and wipes his mouth. "I never take my staff out for dinner. Some of them might get the wrong idea."

"I think they would like you a bit more if you did," Paul smirked, going back to his food.

"I don't care if they like me or not," Adam scoffed. "They do their work, and I pay them. I don't mix business with pleasure."

That's not how it felt back in my hotel room . . . Maybe I was imagining things?

"Whatever you say, man. If you're always this formidable, no wonder they quit all the time," Paul replied, then looked at me. "Hell, are you sure Payton doesn't have her two weeks notice ready in her bag right now?"

His tone is teasing but Adam doesn't look amused, so I quickly change the subject.

"So, do you two have any plans after dinner?"

"Actually, yes. Paul and I will be hitting the casino," Adam spoke.

"That's nice. I might try out a few games as well before I go to bed. I've been pretty lucky in life, so I definitely think I could score a few dollars at least."

"Is that so?" Adam looked at me with interest. I decided to be bold.

"I've managed to keep my job for over a month, so I'd say so," I chuckled.

"Alright, let's test that theory then." The tone of his voice is teasing but his eyes are daring.

"What do you mean?"

"How about you act as my lucky charm tonight? With you by my side, I can't lose, right?" He gazed intently at me.

I mull over his offer as his eyes burn my skin.

Did he just ask me to spend the night with him?

He just said he never spends time with his assistants! Maybe this could be my chance to see if what happened in my room was real or not . . .

"Sorry, I'm really tired. I think I'm going to head to bed," I said.

There was a hint of disappointment but quicky disappears.

"I'll see you tomorrow then."

"Yeah. Goodnight."

"Night."

***

I cheerfully approach Adam the next morning as we're checking out. I had put on a yellow criss cross crop top, a black skirt with lace ends and brown sandals.

"Good morning! That must have been the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in,"I purred. "I slept like a princess. How about you?"

I inquire, turning to face him. He sighs heavily and turns to me and I'm shocked by his appearance.

He looks awful. Is he hungover? I don't remember him drinking much yesterday.

Instead of answering, he scoffs and rolls his eyes. Wow, rude!

Excusing his attitude I stretch out my hands handing him his ticket. "So, uh. Here's your plane ticket."

He snatched it out of my hand.

I let out an involuntary gasp. "Mr Owen, are you okay?"

"No, I am not okay. I've got a headache and, you're making it worse," he rudely remarked.

I frowned.

Okay . . . someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. It's probably just another of his celebrity tantrum.

Well, I'm not going to indulge him. I can also give him the silent treatment.

The plane ride home was awful. Adam didn't say a word to me- he just kept grunting. He was obviously cranky. When we landed, I couldn't wait to get home and away from Adam Owens.

I could only hope that tomorrow he'd be in a better mood.

****

"What's everyone looking at? Get back to work," he snarled.

Boy, was I wrong. He's even worse today.

He kept calling for meetings and snapping at everyone the entire morning. Several people came out of his office visibly shaken, but from what I've collected, nobody got fired.

Everyone at the company was doing their best to avoid him. Unfortunately for me, I want able to.

"Payton, I need to see you in my office. Now!" He left and slammed the door.

This time, I'm definitely going to be fired, I can feel it.
