Chapter Fifteen

The fruit bowl was bugged? I knew it was odd when it arrived earlier. Not as odd as receiving something that wasn't ordered.

"Remember the "fruit pit" I threw out the window?" He asked, air quoting fruit pit.

"It wasn't a fruit pit, was it?" I asked, stating the obvious. I knew it was weird for a strawberry to have fruit pits.

"Nope," he shook his head.

My eyes grow wide, and a million thoughts start to go through my brain. Adam must have noticed it because he came to my side and held my hands.

"Relax, Payton. We didn't say anything suspicious, and I threw the mic away as soon as I spotted it," he reassured, rubbing my arms in a soothing pattern.

"Damn. That's just messed up," Paul exclaimed.

"Do you always swear that much?" Thea remarked with a small frown.

"He's got the mouth of a sailor, you'll get used to it eventually," Adam sighed.

Paul shrugs and turns to Thea who returns the smile. Getting sidetracked, I try to bring them back to the matter at hand.
