Chapter Twenty four

The same day I found out about the pregnancy, Thea and I met up for some coffee.

The cafe wasn't really crowded, so we found a spot close the window and settled down. We both ordered coffee with cream and sugar, and Thea ordered cake with hers.

"I'm nervous, Payton," she fidgeted with the foam cup in her hands, "I'm meeting Paul's son tonight– the one from his first marriage with the stripper. I really want him to like me," she spoke, and pursed her lips.

"You have nothing to be worried about. He's going to love you," I laid a reassuring hand on hers.

"You think so?" She said hesitantly.

"I know so!" I nodded, taking a sip from my cup. "You should totally show him the card trick. You know, the one you learned from the surfer in Tahiti a few years ago. That'll impress him," I suggested.

"Good idea! I'll do that," she sat straighter, her countenance immediately brightening. "Do you want to go out and have a drink with me after? I can tell you all about it and how it went," she offered,
