This Thing Between Us

“Damon!” I called before rushing into his arms. He hugged me back, resting his chin on the top of my head as he inhaled the smell of my hair.

“You’re intoxicating.” He said in a hoarse voice.

I pulled back and searched his eyes with mine looking for any change to tell me the vampire had said something, anything that might cast a shadow of doubt on his face but his expression said nothing out of the ordinary had occurred and I felt myself slowly relax.

“Are you okay?” He asked, placing both gently, holding my face in his hands as his eyes ran over me.

“It’s you I should be asking,” I said with a horrified look on my face. “Look at all this blood… I…”

He nodded and stepped away from me. “I’ll clean up.”

I took a step closer to him and let my arms go around his back.

“You are not angry?” He asked.

“Why would I be?”

He pulled away from me. “You asked me last night not to kill him.”

I had? My mind came up blank, but that wasn't important. The vampire was dead and to my knowledge, he hadn't
