I laughed. The sound came out genuinely because I really was humored.

The intruder watched me with curious eyes but he said nothing.

“And if I don't?” I asked folding my hands across my chest. “What are you going to do?”

He seemed taken aback by my question and it gladdened me. I was not going to put Damon's authority at risk because of this, not when I could simply kill him.

“No, Elena, you can't simply kill him.” My wolf argued. “You could try negotiating with him, you don't want to get us in harm’s way, do you?”

I ignored her.

“Your secret…”

I cut him off, “what secret?” And then I erupted into another fit of laughter. “You think anyone would believe you over me? With it being common knowledge that numerous times I've been set up? Don't be foolish.” I said, my confidence soaring.

If there was anything Alex and his lover had done to help my case was make everything about me believable. It just occurred to me that I could get away with anything now, and even with a witness like this
