CHAPTER FIVE

I watched my sister go down the stairs, holding her head up high.  She thought she knew everything there was to know about Thomas.  But that wasn’t true, I knew him a long time before she did.  I sighed and rubbed my eyes as I fought to hold back tears.  This was a lot harder on me than I ever thought that it would’ve been.

I went into my parent’s old bedroom where I slept at night, ever since I made it my own.  I picked up my cell phone and pressed number three for the speed dial.  The phone rang, and rang, and just when I was about to give up a groggy voice picked up, “Hello?”

“Thomas?  This is Annabeth.  What did I tell you?”

I could hear chuckling over the other end of the phone and I growled and felt my fangs prod out.  “Oh, Annabeth, don’t you remember what we did to her?  She thinks that her only supplier can be me, and unless she figures it out or breaks it, only then will she realize what we’ve done to her and then she’ll wonder why.”

“And when will that be?  You’ve messed with us long enough already, I don’t want anything to do with you anymore, and you know that,” I sighed.

“It would take a lot of willpower, and a lot of things to strike up those memories.  And once she does figure it out, I don’t doubt for a second that she’ll come after you and me both to kill.  She’ll be furious, and you have to ask yourself one question, Annabeth.  Would you be able to kill your only kin left alive?”

I looked out the window and saw Paul getting into Tammy’s car and watched them drive off.  I gave Tammy that car since I could walk to work.  My lower lip trembled as she looked thrilled to have her own car when I first gave it to her.  “Ann?  I’m still waiting for an answer, dear.”

“I –I don’t know if I could or not.  But you are most positive that she will remember?”

He yawned again, “I hope not.  If so, then oh well.”

I gritted my teeth, “it will not be oh well, Thomas.  You and I both know that you love her dearly, and you promised me that you would take care of her.”

“And I intend to do so, but I can’t if you keep telling me to stay away from her.”

“I just want to make sure that she’s safe, with you guys being… a couple, I guess.  And everybody knows what couples do when alone…”

“I can assure you right then and there, nothing is going on.  She is repulsed by doing so with me, as she told me that last night.  I guess I’m the one to blame for ruining her life?”  Thomas asked.  I knew what he was implying.  After summer first started and Darien bit me, he told me that I was going to be special.  I was going to have a hybrid child, one of werewolf blood and Vampirism blood.  I was thrilled to be so important.  Since the day that Tammy had been born into this cursed world, my spotlight was taken as the cute child.  I even heard my aunt say it.  She later paid for what she said.

After convincing my mom to sign me up for camp for a summer, Darien quickly came to the camp convincing the lady he was my father and took me to his home for Vampire training.  He took me to see a woman with long black hair, and two different shades of eye color; one brown and one blue.   And when she took my hand and curled her lip at me; I knew I failed some sort of test.  Especially when she said, “the hybrid would kill you.  You do not have the genes for this job, and nor shall you ever.  A Vampire you are, and a Vampire you will be.  And since Darien and Thomas have brought me the wrong one, I have no choice but to kill you.

I remembered how I had thrashed as Thomas had held me down, and Darien was being held back before taking apart the vampires that threatened to kill his bond-mate, and gave me a look so sad, as if to say, this is your fault.  Why couldn’t you have been the right one?

I remembered crying out in a desperate voice, “I have a sister!  She’s only six, but can she do what I cannot?”  The three of them looked at each other and looked back at me.

You would be willing to sacrifice your sister, in order to save your own life,” the lady, Sarah, had asked me.

I nodded my head in reply to her.

She then began laughing like a maniac and pushed me into Thomas.  “All right then.  I accept your generous gift.  Thomas, bring me back her blood and I will tell if she’s worthy enough by then.”  By the time Thomas and I had set it up, it was the Fourth of July, and I suggested hide and go seek in the woods.  I knew Tammy would say yes because she loved playing in the woods where she could be a princess, or a fairy, or even both.

Thomas had told me he couldn’t control himself.  He was in love with my sister when he laid eyes on her, and that’s what compelled him to bite her before we could reveal what her blood said about her.  When we did take her blood back to Sarah, her eyes widened in surprise and she looked at Thomas and said, “We’ve found her.  You must start prepping this immediately.  As soon as she hits puberty, we will set her up with Aiden.”

Thomas had shuffled his feet, “can we wait a little longer?  She needs to enjoy some teenage years before we send her off to destroy the human race.”

Sarah sneered at Thomas, “You are in love with her, little brother.  You just want her all to yourself when she comes of age.”  She laughed wickedly, “Very well then, you have your wish.  But do not linger on this, she shall be with a child, understood?

Thomas nodded.  I also remembered how just a few months ago, I was insanely jealous.  So jealous that I contacted my Vampire Clan.  When they found out that Tammy was a half-blood, they wanted her to have a Vampire baby.  I told them who her supplier was, and they contacted Thomas.  Thomas was furious with me, now he would have to go to the Vampire clan and explain why he had hid her.  Now, their plans were ruined.   In an attempt to make it up to him, I suggested, “Well, why doesn’t Jake take her out?  A one stand they want, and they shall get it.  Have her meet Aiden, have him play stupid and act like he’s never met her before.  After they have sex, have him get angry that she didn’t tell him what she was, and have Jake reveal to her that it was a werewolf before she tells Aiden what she is.  There, you got your hybrid baking.

Both sides wanted to come out of hiding, not really wiping out humans; but rather rain over them.  Sarah was playing both parts in this role, she and the werewolves had made a pact to divide the human race up evenly to dominate them.  Hence why the hybrid was needed for their plans.  It would basically become the beacon of peace and hope.  However; the Vampire Council just wanted to dominate over everyone and everything.  They sought the riches of life for themselves, not wanting to share with anyone.  They always did think they were the superior species.  It was just a matter of who got to the one that would either birth the most powerful hybrid ever or the first ever born Vampire; one made from life rather than death?

Thomas mused this over, and had finally agreed to me in the end.  I knew the plan would work perfectly when the time called for it.  I sighed and remembered Thomas was on the phone.

“I know what I did, and I regret it a little.  But if I could take back the day when I met you, I would.”

Thomas laughed, “The same with me, Annabeth.  Now, it is past my bedtime.  Goodnight, Annabeth.”  And with that, he disconnected.  I sighed and my body shook with anger, but then I calmed myself and called work and told them I wouldn’t be in for work today; I was feeling sick.

When that was done and over with, I went over to my secret tiny fridge, and opened it up.  I grabbed a bag of O positive and tore it open, and began to drink till my thirst was filled.  One of the advantages of being a nurse when you’re a half-Vampire?  You get blood for free.
