Chapter 1 -Divorce

Jennifer’s point of view:

Life will always teach us something. Every day is a lesson for the next one. Every fight is worth it in the end. It is worth it to cry for our loved ones. Every smile is worth the happiness that we saw. Everything in life is worth it. Except for only one thing: cheating. I hate cheating in life. Have you ever felt betrayed? I felt that right now. Standing in the court stand opposite my husband, soon who is going to be my ex-husband, well, scratch that, smirking at me. Emotions are swirling inside me. But nothing is coming out. I want to cry and scream. The sight of him holding his hands with his so-called girlfriend Natasha is making my chest explode.

My gaze turned towards the two most important people who looked at me with hurt, pain, and guilt.

Hurt that I failed the promise. Pain that his son is a fool. Guilt is dragging me into the mess. I passed a sad smile towards Aaron, my ex-husband’s parents, Michael’s uncle and Claire’s aunty. Her eyes are brimming with tears. I nodded my head, not implying not to cry.

Soon I heard my name being called. I got up and walked toward the stand, and bowed to the judge.

“I have seen and heard everything Jennifer now tells me. Why did you want to divorce your husband?” the judge asked me.

Why? The question itself lingers in my mind. Betrayal. He betrayed me. My subconscious reminded me.

I cleared my throat. “We were married under unforeseen circumstances. Though we tried our best to make this marriage happen, in the end it was no use. For marriage, love is important, but for me, the partner should also be able to trust and should keep his promises up. Somehow, somewhere, he missed it. That’s why it’s best if we just go back to our lives before marriage.” I told the judge. The judge looked at me for a few seconds. After a few minutes, he called Aaron to the stand. I stepped out of the stand and stood a few steps beside me.

“Tell me Aaron, why did you want to divorce your wife?” the judge asked him.

Don’t tell him. I thought and prayed. But my prayers went in vain.

“She is not up to my standards. Besides, I love someone else. She won't be one for me. He declared, making my heart even tighter. I grabbed my bestie Elise’s hands. She patted my hands.

Standard? I smirked. If he knew what the standards were. The judge called me again, and I went to the other stand.

“You are not compatible with this relationship. So by this, Mr. Aaron Robinson is no longer married to Ms. Jennifer Kumar. Divorce granted. And as per Ms. Jennifer’s request, no alimony will be taken from Mr. Aaron. The court adjourned.” The judge declared.

Divorce declared. The one word is ringing in my mind. I stepped out of the court and went outside. I heard a voice, and I turned around to see Aaron and Natasha coming together.

“Hello, Ex-wife. How are you feeling?” Aaron mocked me. Anger rose upon me, but I decided to deal in my way.

“Happy.” My answer seemed to have shocked him.

“Happy that I am now a free bird again and I don’t need to tolerate your shit just because you were my husband. Happy that I got my freedom from my cheating husband.” I mocked him. He looked into my eyes, trying to intimidate me, but it was no use.

“What cat got your tongue? Mr. Aaron Robinson?” I asked him mockingly. I glared at him, showing the pain. “You know what is pitiful here. Even after knowing your true self, my heart unfortunately fell for you. But now it won’t make that mistake again.”

“Don’t forget, I can still sue you.” He threatened. “Sue me for what?” I asked him.

“You know I am a billionaire. One complaint is enough. Your whole life will be finished.” He said. I smiled. “My life is in my hands. No one can do anything. And about you seeing me, don’t forget I still have videos and photos of everything. Every single thing. With that, I will be able to destroy the entire reputation you got. But I am not like you. Only for Uncle and aunty I am sparing you Aaron Robinson. This is the first time I am letting you go. Even If you do that again you will see the worse side of me. Goodbye.” I warned him. For a second, his eyes show different emotions.

“Goodbye, I wish to never see you again.” He spitted his words angrily at me.

Ouch, that hurts dude. I smiled, “Trust me Mr. Aaron Robinson, you won’t be able to. Even if you do, you will see a different version of me. And You will be shocked to see me. Mark my words.” With that, I walked away, driving my car to my apartment.

Soon enough, Elise joined me and started packing with me. We were almost finished when I heard a doorbell. Elise opened the door and silence was all I heard. I came out of my room and was shocked to see my uncle and aunt there.
