As soon as everybody turned around and faced the wall of trees, the atmosphere grew dense with uncertainty. The trees danced as the night's chilly breeze whispered through the air, and the breaking of twigs grew increasingly audible through the silence that had surrounded them. Mira held her hands out at her sides as she was getting ready to draw from her source of energy if she needed to. The hairs on the back of her neck stood on end, and she could feel the presence of death hovering like a menacing cloud above them. Whatever was coming from beyond the trees, she knew it wasn't going to be pretty. But Alpha Bastion laid a heavy hand on her shoulder, "Save your energy, it can't be safe for you to draw from it repetitively. Tonight my pack will protect you." He said in a firm tone as his fingernails extended into thick sharp claws. ~WE will protect her, Bastion. Make sure that big Alien keeps his mitts off her!~ Shadow snarled in Bastions' head. ~OUR main focus is to protect e
ALPHA BASTION slid across the damp grass on his knees, leaning right back as he slid between the Orakcilars' legs. It dropped to its knees, writhing in anguish, as he ripped its legs to shreds with a roar. He swiftly rose to his feet and returned to the Orakcilar. He wrapped one leg around its neck, pinning it to him while he grasped its head in his hands, and twisted the hideous creature's head, ripping it clean from its body. As he was tempted to look it in the eyes, he hurled the head across the grass, watched as it rolled over the ground, and then found himself bowing to the deafening roar that enveloped him. He tried to get to his feet but quickly found himself sinking further into the ground as he had lost control over his body. He jerked his head back in the direction of the Moon, his eyes gleamed brighter than the sun on a vibrant day, and he let out a roar that matched Miras'. He could sense Shadow, his wolf, clawing at his soul, pleading to be set free, and he did h
HOURS LATER, Mira found herself perched on the wooden log that was stationed in front of the flickering fire pit with a blanket wrapped around her shoulders. Even with a warm blanket and a fire burning in front of her, she could not prevent the chill from creeping up her spine no matter how firmly she tugged at the blanket's edges. She tilted her head back and gazed at the sun that was gradually making her appearance in the clear sky as it played peek-a-boo between the clouds. She let the sun's gentle beams caress her bare face, savouring the scant warmth it provided. "This pack will never be the same because you FAILED to protect them when they needed you the most." She whispered, directing her cruel words to the Moon Goddess that she could no longer see perched in the sky. "If you want to continue cursing me, I suggest you keep those claws hidden until you are ready to use them against me, and me alone. Because I am about to leave a path of destruction and devastation in my wake
Mira looked at Alpha Bastion with a look of admiration and respect gleaming in her eyes. Her heart soared as he openly challenged the council's authority in her honour. But enough blood had been shed already and she didn't want the Alpha to get involved. Especially since she was perceived as a rogue. This was her dilemma, and she wanted to handle it properly, according to custom, even if it meant rejecting his assistance. THE ELDER cocked his head back and let out a vicious laugh that rubbed everyone the wrong way. "Your mate and our future Luna?" "Yes!" Alpha Bastion snarled. "Mira is my mate which means you can not cause her any real harm." The elder sneered as he quickly sobered from his abrupt fit of laughter. "Has your mate accepted her fate by your side, Alpha? I was recently made aware that she plans to leave our pack in search of her father's killer, hmm?" They both turned their heads to look at Mira, who returned their gaze with furrowed brows. She was now processi
Miras' teeth slightly chattered as the small room she and the Alpha King were thrown into was made up of three frigid concrete walls and a steel-rodded door. She raised her hands that were still shackled and blew into them as she desperately sought some warmth upon her shivering body. "Here, let me," The Alpha King said as he shuffled to her side and wrapped his shackled free hands around her body. "My body temperature should be enough to keep us both warm." Mira wasn't in a state to reject his kind act of a warm embrace, so she snuggled against his feverish flesh absorbing all the warmth he generously offered her. After a few moments of silence that was shared between them, she stifled a yawn and peered up at him. "Thank you," The Alpha King peered down at her with the corners of his mouth curling into a gentle smile. "My pleasure, Mira." His hands stroked her bare arms to remove the goosebumps that had appeared all over her skin. "Truth be told, this is not how I pictured this
BETA DANIEL cocked his head to one side, unfazed by his Alpha's threat because he had heard it all before. "Hahaha! Your father is on the council," Beta Daniel hissed in agony, "How do you think he is going to vote when he hears that his only son has fallen for a rogue?" His upper lip curled into a sinister snarl. "My father ought to know better than to reign with a corrupt heart. Mira will have the support of my pack because they can see that she has a kind heart and was only a rogue. After all, her father took additional care to protect his only daughter. Once he discovers her ancestry -" "He won't care!" Beta Daniel cut him off, "He will see this as his moment and use it to his advantage to cause you heartache, just like you have done him all these years... and I can not wait to see the look on that little bitches face when she learns her fate." Beta Daniel had a strong intuition that the trial would end in death, and if Mira is indeed Alpha Bastion's mate, he was looking forwa
Mira lurched forward as the Alpha King stumbled back from the steel-rodded door with the syringe still embedded in the crook of his neck. He collapsed to the ground, yanking the syringe out as he examined the odd-looking object before he tossed it onto the cold ground beside him. "What did you stick him with?!" Mira cried out as she lowered herself onto her knees and tried to help Zeb stay awake. "Just a tranquillizer," Lennox hummed as he watched the Alpha King fall to the ground with great enthusiasm. "Why would you do such a thing?!" She yelled at him with wide eyes. "Because my pack has suffered enough from the second he arrived. Death, confusion, despair. It's all there swirling in the back of their minds as they continue to mourn from last night's blood bath." Mira rose to her feet and she glared at Lennox through the thin slits of her eyes, "He is to stand trial... You did this so he won't be coherent enough to answer the council's questions, didn't you?" She hissed as
As Mira and the Alpha King walked through Maves front door and into the living room. They were greeted by Mave, Clohe and to her surprise, Alpha Bastion. "Bastion?" She whispered as his gaze met hers. He nodded his head with a lopsided smirk on his face and approached her closing the distance between them like a wildfire losing control. "Did they cause you any harm?" He asked her as he cupped her face in his hands. She shook her head, "No, not to me anyway."His brows furrowed as he waited for her to explain."We had the pleasure of meeting your father, Lennox, and he stuck Zeb with a tranquillizer."Alpha Bastion looked at the Alpha King, "My father is known to be a cruel bastard and will stoop to any level to get what he wants." He growled as he lowered his hands to his sides."It barely lasted a whole minute before I bounced back up." The Alpha King replied in a deep voice that had Clohe nibbling on her lower lip. "I'm just glad that you both made it out alive," Clohe said in a
