9: Moving In

Moving day finally came and I couldn't be more excited. It's officially the start of my new life. I've only been in the house for two months now, and a lot has changed over that span of time. I now have the money to support myself, a friend to look forward to meeting every day, and an awesome place to stay for the semester.

"Is that all of your things?" Frank asked me as he hauled my third and last bag onto the back of his car.

"Yep. That's it." I told him with a smile and got in the passenger seat of the car. After a few moments, we were already driving to his friend's house. Classes start tomorrow, so we left early so I could unpack my things and get rested before the start of the semester,

"So, is your friend already there?" I asked him as we drove on.

"Nope. He said that he'll stay at his family home until tomorrow. He'll go to his classes from there." He answered me and I just nodded at him. I haven't met this friend of his yet, but I'm a bit relieved to know that Aunty Margo and Uncle Franco know him and they actually told me that he is a great kid.

"It's good that you're staying with someone we know. We don't have to be worried about you." I remember Aunty Margo saying on our video call the day after I agreed to the deal that Frank told me.

"I guess you'll meet him tomorrow after school." He said to me as we got closer and closer to the house.

"Okay. Then I'll have the house for myself the whole day." I said to him with a big smile on my face.

We drove for a couple of minutes more and finally, we arrived at our destination. Frank gave me a key to the house right after I agreed on being his friend's housemate.

"Are you sure you're gonna be okay here, alone?" Frank asked me again as I walked him out of the house after putting all of my things in the room that I would be using.

"I'll be fine, Frank. No need to worry about me." I said to him with a smile and he just ruffled my hair, like he always does, and smiled back.

"Call me when you need anything, okay?" He said to me and I just nodded in response before he finally got into his car. He then started the engine but instead of driving off immediately, his window started rolling down.

"Don't forget to always lock the door, okay?" He said to me and I just nodded at him. He then waved goodbye at me and I did the same to him, he then drove out of the garage and slowly went out of sight.

I went inside the house and locked the doors just like Frank said before getting inside my room.

It still feels a bit surreal that just a few months ago, I was living in my Aunt's old storage shed, and now, I here in a beautiful house with my own room that I can decorate any way that I wanted. The more that I look at it, the more I marvel at the room that I rented. It's like my own house, the only thing missing in the room was my own kitchen, but I can always use the one downstairs so that isn't much of a downside.

After a few minutes of pondering, I finally started to unpack my things. I went immediately to the walk-in closet and I saw something that I didn't see went Frank brought me here the first time. There was a whole body mirror in the middle of two closets that I could hang my clothes in and there was also a small vanity in the corner of the room. There were even hangers that were already ready for use.

I began vacuuming the closet first and that's when I discovered the flat iron and its foldable table in one of the closet drawers. It makes me wonder if someone is supposed to stay here, it was so well furnished, like a hotel that it looks like the owner intended someone to use this room, but I'm pretty sure that Frank said that his friend was going to stay here alone.

I just put that thought aside and took out my Bluetooth speaker and started blasting the whole room with music as I took out my clothes from my bags. I hang each of them on a hanger as I sing along and dance around the room.

I didn't realize that it was already past noon and I haven't even had my lunch yet, so I decided to just order something because I was already feeling the hunger. I went back to my unpacking after I placed my order. After thirty minutes, the music playing in my room suddenly stopped and was replaced by a ringing sound. It was a call from an unknown number.

"Hello?" I said as I answered the call.

"Hello, ma'am. I'm already here in front of your house." The person from the other side of the call said.

"Ah. I'll be right down, sir." I said to him before hanging up the call and getting my wallet before I head downstairs to meet the delivery man.

"Thank you, sir." I said to him as I gave him the money in exchange for the food.

"I didn't know that there is a girl living here." The delivery man said smiling at me. I don't know why, but it was a bit creepy for me so I just awkwardly smiled at him and got my food.

"Thank you." I just said to him again and quickly closed the gate behind me, then locked the door as I got in. I looked through the closed curtains and saw the delivery man driving off on his motorcycle. I finally release the breath that I didn't even know I was holding and went to the kitchen to finally eat my lunch.

Thankfully, there were already utensils that came with my order because I still didn't know where all the things in the kitchen were. I went back to unpacking as soon as I finished eating and cleaning up.

Without any more hiccups, I finished unpacking my clothes and I even had time to arrange my things for school on the desk inside my room. I finished putting away everything and looked at my room in awe. It already feels like home.

I finished everything before the sun even set so I decided to look for a near place to eat dinner. I put on a hoodie and went out of the house, making sure that I had my wallet, phone, and keys with me before locking the door and gate behind me.

Since the house was near the campus there is a street full of restaurants and other shops and boutiques. I decided to do some window shopping as long as I was there. I took mental notes on the places that I want to come back to when I had more time to look around, but I was really hungry so I decided to look for a place to eat.

I found this small Japanese restaurant and I immediately went in. I sat down at the far end of the room and took my time looking at the menu. After a few minutes, I finally decided on what I wanted to eat so I raised my hand to call for a waiter. One of the servers finally noticed me and came to my table.

"Can I get your order ma'am?" He asked taking out his pad and pen.

"I'd like one order of tempura, one udon, and one tonkatsu," I said to him happily as he wrote down my order on his paper eagerly.

"How about for your drink, ma'am?" He asked with a bright smile.

"I'll have a large cola." I said to him returning his smile.

"Is that all, ma'am?" He asked me.

"Yes, thank you." I said to him, handing the menu to him. He gladly took it and walked away from my table.

I sat there at my table by myself and scrolled through my socials as I waited for my food to be served. Then I realized that Jessi was also scheduled to move into her dorm today, so I decided to send her a message.

Hey. Where are you? Have you unpacked already? I'm at the Japanese restaurant near the campus. Want to join me for dinner?

I went back to scrolling on my phone as I waited for her to reply to me.

"Oh. Look who we have here?" I heard a familiar voice say as she was standing in front of me. I looked up from my phone and saw someone that I should have expected to see near the campus. It was Angelique. She was standing tall in front of my table with two other girls that I didn't know standing slightly behind her, and that's when I knew that trouble was brewing.
