Neither Vale or I slept the rest of the night. We must have looked like zombies coming down to breakfast but no one fucked with us. Suddenly, I felt very glad Vale was avoided. He was so numb at this point, looking like a hollow shell of himself. The Alpha didn’t care but I could tell High Councilor Mark definitely gave him a few looks of confusion. Vale stared at the floor. I could pick up his heartbeat as it raced but nothing showed it in his features. His face was blank as he bore holes into the floor. Looking back at the phone, I saw Simon also watching intently. Every once in a while though, he would look up over the phone. “So, what’s next?” I finally broke the silence and asked. They basically played the cup game and mixed together, then went separate ways. Pipsqueak is tracking their movements through as many cameras as she can get ahold of. He took the phone from my hand but I didn’t let it go. My eyes locked with his as he looked up at me, confused as to why I wouldn’t let go. “I know you’re upset. This might make it worse. You need to understand that you aren’t the only one in pain. You aren’t the only one who loves him. He may be your mate, but he is also a friend, a son, a member of the pack and family. It’s not just you in pain.” He growled and pulled the phone out my my hands. I watched as Vale phoned Auri. It was understandable how upset and angry he was but this was bigger than him as well. The fact that he still couldn’t feel anything through the bond seemed to be a good sign. Auri proved that she could be far away but still made Logan feel her pain of her dying. 'Check the perimeter.' Rydere barked at me. I looked around outside but I didn’t see anyone. Taking a deep breath, I ran, making sure all four were following. A week after the death of Alpha Niles, Vale and I welcomed Alpha Evan and his Luna Naomi, with their pup. We had had already taken care of the vampires and it turns out, there were only a few that were holed up in a building just outside of the pack territory. Vale already had passed on the title of Alpha, introducing the whole pack to their new Alpha. I had never seen so much elation and suddenly the pack turned back into a place they could call home.We were still here though, trying to sort out the ridiculous amount of issues that the previous Alpha and Beta left behind. There wasn’t much I could help with so I started up on a new routine for the warriors so they would be better off then the ridiculous routine they had previously. The next few days were horrid. I refused to give Vale more than three words, two of which included ‘my king’ at the end of everything. More than once had he yelled at me but I took it with a blank, bored expression. This pups anger couldn’t scare me. Goddess, no. I wondered sometimes if he had ever seen Auri truly angry before. She was a force that would leave me breathless with fear.If he required a deeper conversation, I was short, straight to the point and sometimes sarcastic. The change seemed to shift the whole castle in the awkwardness between us.I didn’t give a single shit though. Neither did Rydere. We both sometimes needed time and he would take over, letting me retreat. He treated Vale even more sarcastically that I did. Which, of course, ticked Vale off even more. But I was angry and I felt like I had to bottle all my pain. Bottle everything and even when I tried to reach out to Bryan or Simon, there was nothing.
