As Good As Dead

I watched the time tick by, anxiously waiting for my shift to end so I could prepare to meet my father.

First I was going to drill him with questions. One question had been pounding through my head since I had called him this morning.

The why.

Then I was going to ask him to hand me the money back, at least the hundred thousand dollars that he had ran away with.

What if he didn't hand me the money back?

He obviously wasn't going to.

What was I going to do then? I needed some kind of leverage over him

A recording? I thought, pondering over it as I chewed on my lip, staring into space.

The bar was empty, so I had all the time to muse over my own thoughts and not get fired.

A recording could work but that meant I had to ask self incriminating questions that could be used as evidence.

"Hey pretty girl", a voice called, snapping me out of my head.

I looked up, finding gleaming brown eyes boring into mine. Michael?

"A penny for your thoughts?", He asked, smiling shyly and I rolled my eye
