Vulnerable Bargains

Words reached my ears, the not so silent murmurs pulling me out of my sleep as I opened my eyes groggily, the high end ritzy ceiling bathed in gold coming into my view.

Where was I?

I felt the soft surface behind me, noting that I was atop a bed and I frowned inwardly, trying to sit up as fear doubled up my heart rate.

Where was I?

I somehow managed to sit up as I recalled I had heard voices. I glanced around, feeling eyes on me as my gaze met with Sydney's concerned ones.

"Hey", Sydney said somberly with a wave, her eyes dimming in sympathy.

I glanced at Claude who was staring at me with an emotionless gaze.

"What am I doing here?", I asked, my voice coming out groggy as I tried to recall what had led to me being here.

My memories refused to cooperate to that effect.

"What are we all doing here?", Claude spoke before Sydney had the chance to, throwing back my question.

I frowned, "What?"

"What are you doing here? What are we doing here?", Claude retorted, "All that doesn't matter".
