Out of sight, Out of mind

~Jacob's pov~

I smiled, "We won't know until she goes through the change".

"But you feel it, don't you?" Sydney prodded and I tapped my foot against the floorboard of the car, wondering how much farther to the councillor's office.

"I don't feel anything", I growled.

Anything except mad and raging lust and the stupid fleeting feeling of care I had showed her yesterday evening.

That wasn't going to repeat itself for sure.

"Come on", Sydney rolled her eyes, her liquid silvers piercing me with a stare. "You can't say she doesn't get under your skin".

"In precisely the same way you're getting under mine now. With your incessant prodding", I retorted, imbibing ice into my tone for her to know I was being serious.

But Sydney was Sydney.

Annoying as shit.

"What are you going to do if she's actually the one?"

I sighed, "I doubt the fates would be so kind as to grant me my true mate after eight hundred years".

Sydney sat back, considering what I had just said. I couldn't believe it myself.
