Missing Alpha's Seal and The Encounter With Alpha Austin

“What do you mean you broke up? You guys were so in love, I am sure you guys still are.” I forced him to release me and look at me, but the sobs that were reverberating through his body did not let him raise his head to me.

“I am so sorry, Hazel. But…I just can’t stand being with her when she hates you so much. She said things about you, said things about me and you…it would be bad of me to just leave you because I want to be with her. We go back way longer.”

This can’t be happening. The exact thing that Alpha Austin had warned me about was coming true and I couldn’t even do anything about it.

“No. I don’t mind Simon. It doesn’t really matter. Do what makes you happy.”

He shook his head. “No. We go too far back for me to leave you just like that.” He sniffed, then wiped his eyes with the back of his sleeve. “I will go up and be by myself for some time, okay? Is that alright?”

I nodded and he walked away, to his tiny basement room. That was the sort of room most of us omegas had, and since he was alone in his room, it was considered a major flex.

I wrapped up my cooking and served, before leaving to go back to my room. I had been yearning to be alone ever since Simon had broken the news to me. I just wondered what that made me now. A relationship wrecker? A bad friend? Or someone who was in deep, deep trouble?

I sat on my bed, just as the door opened and closed again.

“Are you going for the mating ceremony? They say Alpha Austin will find his mate today.”

I looked up to Eve, who had her chestnut brown hair tied up into a rough bun with more than a few strands escaping to frame her face. Her hands were on her waist, and she was looking at me quizzically.

“I am an omega. I don’t have a choice.”

“Will you be okay? He is going to get even farther.”

“He was never within reach anyway.”

“But you could at least want him.”

“Doesn’t mean it let me be happy, or at peace with myself. Wanting him simply wrecked my soul and maybe it’s better for my soul, my wolf and my heart to realize he can’t be mine.”

She sat next to me and pulled me into an embrace, urging me to keep my head on her shoulder. “You are so mature.”

“That’s the only option I have.”

She patted my back lightly, as I tried to stifle the tears that threatened to flow. In some hours, he would no longer be free to covet.

I carried my small sling bag, the only one I had which had practically blown up Simon’s lifelong savings when he got it for my birthday. I still kept it and it looked like knew, so I decided to wear it with the only dress I had. Knee length and dark pink with slim hands. I wore my worn out sneakers, and combed my black hair to each side of my shoulder.

“You look ready to kill.” Eve said, nudging me.

I only smiled at her as she hooked her arm around mine and we got ready to leave.

The mating ceremony was a bigger affair that even the thanksgiving, and I was happy I was not on call that day. I could see the omegas that were on call working their asses off.

I made my way with Eve hanging around me, probably to make sure I wasn’t going to break down, towards the first line from where omegas were allowed to stand. From there, I could see Austin, and right beside him, was Katherine. His now ex – girlfriend. Lily was on the other side, and then the grand alpha on the side of Katherine. She looked like the daughter in-law everyone approved of.

“Hey, didn’t know you were coming.” Simon said as he tapped me from behind.

I shrugged. “I just wanted to come see.”

“You look good. Is it for someone?”

I laughed it off and we both turned to watch the performances. Suddenly, I saw when someone came over and bent next to Alpha Austin, whispering something on his ear. He looked shocked for a second, then excused himself.

“I kinda don’t want to stay,” Simon started to say, before I felt someone tug at my bag.

“Fancy seeing you here, Hazel. I thought both of you would prefer somewhere….quieter.” Lily said, giving me a fake smile.

“Lily, we are really not…”

“Whatever.” She said simply and turned away.

Simon sighed. “I’ll talk to her.”

I tried to stop him, but he left, taking the path in the direction where she had left to.

I turned back to the ceremony, although I was now distracted. I and Simon have only ever been friends with nothing other than that between us. I wondered what it meant for me now that Lily thought that way of us, especially with alpha Austin’s warning.

“Excuse me.” I turned around. The face was unfamiliar, and I thought it was just one of those who wanted to hit on girls.

“Yes, how can I help you?” I asked, trying to sound polite, but not friendly enough to encourage any advances.

“Are you Hazel? The omega?”

I nodded. The fact that he was being specific probably meant he was not just being random.

“Yes, I am.”

“Please follow me. Alpha Austin would like to see you.”

“What?” I asked, my heart immediately picking up pace. Alpha Austin wanted to see me, Omega Hazel? How could that be?

He only made a motion with his hand that said I should follow him, and I nodded, trying to push away my wandering thoughts.

We walked for a while, till we got to a small clearing far away from the ceremony. Alpha Austin’s back was turned to me, and Lily was standing there too.

“Hazel.” Alpha Austin said and turned to me. “Give me back the Alpha’s seal that is wrongfully in your possession.”
