Welcome To The Family

I swallowed as the crowd started to cheer. Alpha Austin has found his mate, but she is over there. Not me. The woman he is holding.

“The Alpha has found his mate, seer. Bless them.”

The seer nodded. She was a blind old woman who always kept her eyes closed, but whenever she opened them, they have the moon reflected in them.

I watched as she wake up to us, a small smile on her face. She held the water in her hands and it shook slightly from the slight tremble of her body, but it did not fall.

“May the moon Goddess…”

“Excuse me.” I turned and Catherine was looking at me like she was about to kill me.

“This is all a sham. I am the alpha’s mate. I am the only one with the alpha’s scent.”

The seer stopped what she was doing and turned to her.

My heart was beating wildly in my chest, my body trembling. The seer would know if I was his mate. And I will take the fall alone. It would be even worse if that was to happen.

I looked at Alpha Austin who had a small smug smirk on his face.

“Oh. Catherine.” He said then turned. “As everyone here knows, Catherine and I were lovers ever since we both turned 16. When we found our wolves. I guess that’s why she had already made up her mind to become my mate.”

“That’s not…” Catherine started to say, before she was rudely interrupted by alpha Austin who had the smug smile of someone who knew he had the odds in his favor.

“Also, we broke up a few days ago. When we both realized we weren’t each other’s mates.” He smirked. “Best decision of my life. I don’t intend to be so disloyal to my mate and the moon Goddess that I will decide to let my mate go because of the sentiments. Right, Catherine? Don’t you agree?”

That was exactly what she had told him. She wouldn’t be disloyal enough to reject her mate for him. He was rubbing it on her face, and doing it very gladly.

The Grand Alpha looked from me to Alpha Austin then to Catherine.

“Bless them, Seer. Catherine, please leave the stand.”

“Do you really believe what Austin is saying? He is angry because…”

“Are you implying that the alpha is lying and is sabotaging his own mating ceremony just for revenge against you? Get down from the stand and let them continue without any more hitches from you. Is that understood?” The grand alpha spat, obviously tired of the back and forth arguments Catherine kept throwing.

It was obvious alpha Austin had been wiser.

The seer continued with spraying the water om us as she recited some words that I could not hear, before she slowly bent to my ear.

“You may not realize it now, but you are right where you should be.”

She leaned away and smiled at me. I wanted to ask her what she meant, but she walked away and went to Austin.

“Congratulations, Alpha. You are on the path the moon Goddess has carved out for you. It is very delicate, however, so trudge with care and trudge with love.”

She touched both our hands and brought them together, before she turned away and left the stand.

Catherine got down and walked away, as other members of the pack started to howl their congrats. Alpha Austin has found his mate.

“Why did you hide it from me?” Simon asked, his voice shaking. He looked both angry and sad, and I felt sorry that he had broken up with Lily for me and I ran off to Alpha Austin. The man of my dreams. I wasn’t sure if that was not about to become a nightmare however.

“I am sorry, Simon. It just sort of happened.”

“Is that why he called you earlier? Because he found out you were his mate?”

No, Simon. But you don’t need to know that. “Yes. That’s why.”

He looked at me for a while, his eyes sad. “So you won’t…live in the pack house anymore?”

“Why won’t she? She is still only an omega.” Lily said as she walked to us and I sighed.

“You didn’t have to go to that extent.” I said, turning to her.

“How dare you talk back at me with your eyes at the same level as mine?” Lily asked, her stance looking like she was ready for whatever could go down.

“Because she will soon be Luna, Lily. Show some respect.” Simon came in between us, shielding me from her with his body.

“Oh. The omega wolf who left go of me to maintain his so called friend.” She snickered mockingly. “Both of you are nothing.”

“Excuse me, miss. All you have is a line of alphas and you weren’t even born a male. You can’t inherit the alpha’s seal and once your father leaves, you are as good as nothing. You will live only under your brother, feeding off of his mercy, so I suggest you respect his woman.” Eve had her hand crossed as she said it, her brow raised. She looked like she could fight the entire world and my heart fluttered.

“It is the entire omega crew. “ Lily laughed, humorlessly. “My brother’s woman? We all know Catherine is my brother’s mate, not that stinky omega.”

“Lily!”

We all froze, and she turned to the Grand alpha. Austin was not with him. He is most probably somewhere, sulking about his decision.

“How can you be so disrespectful?”

“Dad!”

“Apologize right now.”

She turned to us, her body trembling with anger. “Sorry, Omegas.”

“Lily.”

“That’s what they are, dad. Isn’t it?” She didn’t wait for him to say a word, but walked off, her red hair bouncing.

“I apologize on her behalf.” He said to us, then turned to me. “Welcome to the family. What is your name?”

“Hazel.” I was surprised I don’t stammer.

He smiled. “Help my son well. He tends to be impulsive sometimes, and I hope you will work on it with him.”

I smiled back. Oh, I do know what he is. I know all too well.
