The Letter

Austin held my hand and helped me out of the room.

"You think it's over, Hazel? You think he will really bring his sister to justice? You think you matter that much?"

Austin looked at me, and I said nothing, just continued walking in front of him. He followed behind me, and then opened the car door for me.

"Are you scared?" he asked as we got in.

I turned to him. "Scared?"

He nodded. "Are you scared I might let Lily off the hook?"

I looked at him for a while, the turned awsy. "I don't know."

He sighed. "You are. But I won't try to assure you."

I turned to him again, my eyes boring in to him. "Why? Because I am not worth being reassured?"

He shook his head. "Because you need someone who proves it to you. Not just...fill you up with words."

I felt my eues moisten up and I blinked hard and turned away. He didn't start the ignition, however, and I felt him touch my hand. Slowly, he turned my face to him, and he slowly leaned forward and placed a small kiss on my forehead. I closed my eye
