CHAPTER II: "You're fired"

"Sorry, Ma'am, I will replace your order now," Jodie said as she was about to take a lady's order.

"Are you the one who took care of me again? Well, last time you didn't perform your job, and now you haven't done well again!" the lady yelled at Jodie.

Jodie simply nodded and began to apologize, but the lady didn't say anything until the manager arrived and asked what was happening.

“Good day Manager, this waitress of yours here didn't do her job well again. It looks like you already know what you should do with such people.” The lady explained but the anger towards Jodie was still obvious in her expression.

Jodie felt nervous and quickly apologized to the woman, "Ma'am, I have apologized and it won't happen again." she bowed her head.

The manager looked at Jodie with disappointment on his face.

''Jodie, we've talked about this before.” he sighed “I'm sorry, but I gave you a chance. So I have to fire you, now, "said the manager to Jodie.

Jodie was almost stabbed in the chest because of what her manager said.

''Sir, I-i need this job. Please don't fire me," Jodie begged.

"I'm sorry Jodie. Fix your things and I'll give you your month's salary." The manager replied. He apologized to the lady and then returned to his job.

All the employees, including staff from the Grande Group, gathered.

A few minutes later Sheila arrived holding an envelope, followed by Gideon.

Gideon was greeted by his employees. He nodded and then sat down in his seat to begin the meeting.

"Where is Kevin?" he asked Sheila, coldly.

Sheila took a look around at their staff and signaled to Johnny, a close friend of Kevin's.

"Um, I gotta look at him, excuse me," Johnny said as he stood up to leave the conference room.

Gideon dropped his gaze. He was irritated by his staff' improper actions.

"Forget about Kevin, Johnny; come back here," he grumbled.

Johnny came to a halt. He swallowed and sat back down in his chair, anxiously.

"So…what's the issue with all of you?" Gideon started, looking at his staff one by one. "And why didn't you perform well in your job? If you want to leave the company, you may go," he said seriously.

Everyone is completely quiet.

“Anyone?” Gideon asked once again.

Sheila turned to face Gideon and cleared her throat. "U-um, Sir, I'll make sure they won’t do that again," she said.

"How did you know?" Gideon said, turning to face her. "You are the one who reports to me on their actions at work," he replied.

Gideon handles his work seriously. He is indeed a perfectionist. He knows how to present himself professionally at work.

Everyone turned to stare at Sheila.

"U-Um, I'll be tougher with them so they can perform their task correctly," she said, trying to save herself from embarassing.

Johnny and some of the employees smirked without Sheila noticing.

Gideon gave a shaky nod. Kevin entered the meeting room at the same time. He handed the paperwork to Gideon immediately.

Gideon looked at the documents. These were confidential papers.

"All right, everyone, you may leave," he said back to his staff. "Sheila will give you instructions for your next task," he explained.

Everyone agreed and excused themselves respectfully, except Sheila, who remained seated.

Gideon was stopped, "Everyone besides Kevin," he told her.

Sheila rolled her eyes and stood up to leave the conference room.

When Jodie returned home, she leaned down on the couch. Her brother spotted her and immediately began massaging her back.

"It appears your boss kicked you today," Jake joked as he massaged his sister's back.

Jodie frowned, "How did you find out?''

"Well, you constantly speak about him," he said as he sat down next to her. "It's a good thing you're not going to work at that restaurant, Jodie."

"And what about our everyday expenses? How am I going to pay for this apartment and your medication?" she laments.

Jake, it turns out, is also unhappy. “I don’t know either,”

"Don't be sad, little lion; I'll find a solution," she murmured, scratching her brother's hair.

"Why don't you look for a publisher for your book?"

Jodie is suddenly silent. She never expected that her youngest brother would talk about her dream.

"Do you believe this is a favorable opportunity for me?" she asked.

"We'll see," Jake said with a wink.

Gideon frowns at Kevin, who is in the midst of a conversation.

"So you mean the Rigor Company was about to produce a fiction novel and they could persuade readers to buy it? Is that what you're suggesting, Kevin? "

"Indeed, Sir."

Gideon considers it and thinks about it, "So, as quickly as possible, find me a brilliant fictitious writer; I want to meet that author this week." he said.

“I will process it, Sir. When we found the five author’s for our organization. Rigor company will be our opponent now.” Kevin explained.

Gideon thinks that Rigor Company is one of the great companies in New York. He believes that it will be impossible to defeat this organization. But he needs to do some techniques to remain their company at the top.

After the meeting, Gideon drive his car to meet his Uncle, he want to discuss his new plan with him. Aside from he is the older brother of his father, Samuel Grande is a General Manager in the company and have rights to know everything at work.

"Are you particularly looking for a fictional writer, Giddy?" Sam asked. They're currently dining in an expensive restaurant, discussing Gideon's strategy.

"You're right, Uncle," he said, nodding.

"But, why? We only publish factual headlines, not made-up stories. " Sam continued.

"To persuade some readers to buy our books, because teenagers prefer fictional stories," he says with a confident voice.

"Well, you've already decided, what should I do?" Sam exhales hard.

"Just eat, and we'll see what happens. I only need five authors for the firm," he explained.

"All right, as you say." Sam nodded. ‘’Best of luck! "

Gideon gave his uncle a wink.
