Chapter 2

Mate? I was gonna be his mate. Based on the books I read, mates are a werewolf's partners. I bit my lower lip, examining his features; he was like a fictional character in the books I have read and I was gonna be his leading lady like oh my God. I mean if I was gonna be a werewolf, then I would be glad to be his mate. His manly aura was looking so good. I sniffed. He also has a good scent. I guessed it wasn't a bad idea to be his mate if I really have no choice.

"If you have no idea what mate is. Let me make it short and simple for you," he scoffed. "You're gonna be my wife and I'm gonna be your husband. Total disaster, right?" He sighed. "I have no intentions of marrying someone I don't love, especially a human turned into a werewolf. But I have responsibilities and taking care of my sister and Moonlight Claws are two of that." He rolled his eyes, looking disgusted about everything.

Moonlight Claws? I shrugged. My brain was still sinking the fact that I was gonna marry the gorgeous man in front of me. My lips thinned, thinking about what would be our wedding looks like. My face heated like the blood over there was dripping on my dried throat.

"What if we don't marry each other? I mean, do we really have to be mates?" I crossed my arms, playing hard to get.

He keeps on acting as if I wanna marry him. Like it's his loss and it's my win. Duh! Yes, he's a gorgeous man, but that doesn't mean I will play easy.

I softly sniffed. He really was smelling good. Okay, maybe I didn't wanna play that hard but he was kinda arrogant for the time being we started talking. At the same time, he was magnetising my eyes to keep me looking at him like I could almost swoon over his sexy body.

"Actually, we don't have to. But it's against all your odds. If you're not gonna marry me, you'll be a rouge. Not only that, you'll be stuck in your werewolf form for the rest of your existence."

I held my thumping chest. Oh, God! How could I ever successfully process the news in my mind? I looked at Vilka whose yellow eyes were still glowing at me while she was still looking like a beast; a better-looking version of a beast. She howled at me. She seemed hungry, wanting to bite me again.

I breathed in and out, calming my panicking heart.

"Is there no other way? Maybe there's a way to stop me from becoming a werewolf. Don't you have medicines for that? Or magic? I don't know, maybe there's another way."

He clenched his jaw as he took a deep breath like he was losing his patience in explaining things to me.

"You think if there's another way, I will choose the marrying way?" He scoffed. "There's no other way. No one can stop your transformation. Now if you choose to be a rouge or lone wolf, you're gonna stay in your werewolf form forever unless there's a pack that will adopt you which I doubt there will be." He stared deeper. "And I also need to keep my eye on you, so yeah. We both have no choice. Be it."

I was aware of how he was controlling his annoyance by clenching his fist and looking up, puffing breath multiple times now. His facial expressions were showing how much he hated the idea of marrying me. It was fine though. Maybe I was just offended by the way he was acting like hello, I also didn't wanna be a werewolf. It was not my intention to be a giant dog. My chest was just pinching its heart maybe because I found him attractive and he found me annoying without even trying to know me; whatever.

"Can you stop acting like I win here and you lose? You think I wanna be a giant dog and marry you? You keep on acting irritated as if your sister and I planned this shit." I rolled my eyes.

He glared more, he looked at me longer like he was examining what I feel inside. I showed my angry face. I slightly stepped back when his brown eyes glow into blue again, then slowly it turned back to brown. He stepped forward to reach me as he smiled.

My lips thinned.

Why is he smiling? He looks more gorgeous now that he's genuinely smiling. Please... I should be annoyed right now.

"Still no one wins and no one loses. The game is just about to begin, Kira. Your werewolf journey is just about to begin." He tapped my head like a dog. "So either be my mate and let's win this together or be a rouge then we both lose."

There were tons of things bombarding my mind but I chose to take deep breaths just to calm my squirming chest. Fenris told us to take dinner first. It was a quiet and quick dinner. I almost drool into the silence. Our eyes kept on meeting each other while eating. I wondered if he could read my thoughts as I wanted to read him, but I couldn't.

After dinner, he told me to take a rest first. He left me in the guest room, telling me to sink everything in for the night as for tomorrow he was gonna explain and clarify some confusion to me.

The next day, I woke up feeling better but still anxious. A smoke of delicious food travelled on my nose which lead me on walking towards the kitchen. I saw Fenris cooking something.

"Good morning," he greeted without even glancing at me.

So it was true that the senses of werewolves were stronger. I mean, he didn't even see me but he greeted me.

"What do werewolves eat?" I asked while watching him cook something on a pan. Some of his sweat was dripping on his firm biceps. He was just wearing an oversized black tank top, revealing his actual big arms.

He glanced at me. "Human."

I stepped back a little.

He chuckled. "Meat, basically."

"You eat humans?"

"If only we're allowed to." He shrugged.

I didn't ask any more questions after that. He could eat me alive if he completely got annoyed with me, even if it was illegal.

I just quietly stood beside him and watched how he cooks. It was an ideal scenario in every book I have read. The man cooking for his lady. I sniffed the good-smelling smoke from the food he was cooking.

If he isn't a werewolf, I will probably have a crush on him. I mean he is a picture-perfect six-footer guy except that he gets easily irritated.

We ate our breakfast quietly.

I glanced at him; our eyes met. I looked away as my lips thinned. I noticed our eyes kept on meeting each other. Was that a sign that he was also stealing a stare at me? I shouldn't assume.

"You really have no idea about what happened to Vilka?" I broke the loud silence.

The sounds of his fork on the plate stopped so I paused moving my utensils as well. He stared at me deeply and I tried staring back as if he wasn't melting me but my knees were already trembling as his gaze went deeper.

I thought he was gonna throw another sarcastic word but he just puffed a breath and shrugged before sipping on his coffee.

"No idea at all. It's my first time encountering a werewolf-like that. We are born in power to control our wolf. All my life, I've never seen a werewolf losing all her humanity and having only animalistic instincts. It's like there's a devil inside her."

"So what are you gonna do about it?" I grabbed the glass of water.

He shook his head. "I still don't know. In the meantime, I am planning our wedding. It will be held in Norway."

I almost threw the water out of my mouth. I cough as I put the glass back on the table.

"In Norway?!" My brows crossed. "Why in Norway? Can't we do that here? I don't have money to book a flight---"

"You don't have to worry about anything. All you have to do is sit back and behave as you should be."

"But why in Norway?"

"Moonlight Claws territory is in Norway. It's a werewolf wedding, Kira. In there, you will meet my pack."

My lips thinned. I've never been to Norway. I wasn't even sure if I could trust him. He may have a hidden agenda.
