Chapter 4

"What?"

"Just when we thought all this is over."

Alyssa and Adanna complained whilst sitting on the ground resting their backs on that very wall. They had tried pushing it back, knocking on the rock, they had tried everything only to realise they were stuck in this cave maybe for forever.

"How did we get inside if only we knew." Alyssa commented as she started to draw something on the space before her. "Why did granny even expect me to be a great chief, look on my first day I killed many, and we are trapped in here not knowing how we can get out of this cave. Why am I so useless."

She remembered her grandma telling her stories with great heroes and she would tell her to act like one. But now it all seemed to be just talk.

Adanna looked at the other as she no longer had any strength to comfort anymore. She watched as her friend drew some sort of lines connecting together. They were sitting under the spot where some of the light streaked to where they sat. She could see little of the sketch.

Alyssa started reciting some few words,

'light glimmers from above

Stones shine at their brightest

Each with a purpose

When united

All seem to have an outcome.'

She continued on repeating these words. Adanna listened quietly as she continued to watch as the lines she drew become defined as they made up some kind of shape.

"Wait a minute." An idea crept in her mind as her eyes glimmered with excitement.

"Where did you hear all that."

"From granny, when we were little she would talk of that did you forget." Alyssa responded as she looked at the sketch and went through her words again and again.

"Light from above?" They both looked above and saw those gems glimmering so bright.

"Stones!" The two exclaimed as they nodded.

"So it wasn't all made up story telling, she knew we would be here someday. So now we know the stones are those gems what now each with a purpose what does that mean."

Adanna looked at the sketch analysing it attentively, "maybe this is our guide. Maybe the moon really gifted you wisdom and great memory. Let us try to figure out where we can find this pattern then it is where we can find out that answer."

"At least we won't be dying in here any more," Alyssa murmured as they stood up and started walking around looking at the random gems as they tried to find that hexagon.

It wasn't easy going back where they had come from looking at those gems trying to find one of them which might be the key. They spent yet another hour naming all kinds of shapes they came across. They could see some trees, squares, circles some straight lines, zig zag but never did they come across any hexagons.

Almost losing hope the two started walking back until they thought of an idea, "Why don't you draw it from the start and then we look at every step you take we might find a clue."

She started yet to draw some lines and in the way she would draw lines connecting to one another and she came up with exact hexagon.

"It said when united we have an outcome right? Try to draw a dot at the center and join all the lines from each corner until all of them meet," Adanna suggested.

Alyssa did just that and they had twelve lines, with six making the hexagon and six meeting at the center.

"See we have this star but we haven't seen so many lines like this one. We have to find something within it." Adanna commented as she zoomed and counted all the six parts, but nothing of the sort came to mind. They moved on to each part to only realise it is repeated all around. The clue had been clear all along. That three sided shape, the triangle is the answer all this time.

They had come across with six of them just a meter away from where they were standing, looking above, they saw the little gems making little triangles which were circling one of a lonely star. It was unique and seemed to be studded on top of the gem. They hadn't realised it because the triangle's pointy tops were facing outwards whilst the edges were attached making something like a star itself.

It was tiny and had the same colour as the other gems.

Feeling happy that they had found a way to get out they reached for that tiny star poking it and pressed it hard.

What followed was extremely magical, those little gems shimmered brightly as they burst making an opening on top of their heads.

Saying bye bye to the cave, the two teens climbed out in the opening.

They were welcomed by freezing air and fog which covered the whole area. Things still couldn't get better. Sticking close together they started on yet another journey through this smoky fog.

Walking with bare feet as they came in contact with the dew on the little grass the two continued on to who knows where. They weren't seeing anything and by some luck they caught up to some forest.

At least it used to be a forest, now it was old and black as the little branches longed to have leaves of their own. The little tree trunks were scattered about as the fog took over the remaing space left in between all the trees.

It was eery, too quiet and this made the two to feel nervous, frightened to fall into a trap or come across something. "Why do we have such bad luck what day is it today." Adanna whispered to Alyssa.

When she was about to reply to her, they sensed a movement close by. "What now?"

"Who goes by?" They heard a hoarse masculine voice sounding a little far from where they were standing. Feeling relieved that it was just a man, "maybe he is also lost in the forest," they reasoned as they moved closer to see who it was.

They weren't thinking clearly or why then would they walk into danger itself in this thick fog. Even if they were killed no one would care to find them.

"Come close." The man persuaded the two foolish girls. "That's it a little closer."
