Another week another exam. Sleep is impossible, constantly waking to double check my notes. My mother’s opal amulet is permanently round my neck as I nervously play with the fiery amber stone. My hair is a wavy mess from stress-scrunching and I’m fairly sure Roxie is sick of me asking her to test me on possible questions.

“You need to eat something, you look poorly,” Cherry said sympathetically, beckoning me to join them on the bench. She looked adorable in a floaty tea-dress, blonde curls, and her signature red lipstick. I couldn’t help noticing the red stain on Matt’s lips and side of his neck.

I thought it was cute how they attempted to keep their relationship private. They had little inside jokes, his huge arms always had her books in them, and he couldn’t take his eyes off her curvy shape. If they thought nobody had noticed their relationship, they were happy fools. Perhaps they were waiting to see if they were mates before making a bigger thing of it.

“I’ve got snacks in this
