Chapter 8

WYATT

It’s my first night in the castle. I’m a little apprehensive about it I suppose. My curiosity is raging. Are there ghosts here? Will someone be waking me up at the crack of dawn? Or do I make my own schedule? Everything feels so up in the air.

I still need to sign the contract Johnny gave me earlier. My stomach is over full from eating three slices of a meat lovers pizza and pounding two pints of a heavy stout. I draw myself a bubble bath. Watching music videos in a bathtub is a life I never thought I would be living. This isn’t so terrible.

The muffled sound of Johnny’s motorcycle vibrates as he gets closer to the castle. I wonder his date was stupid enough to come home with him? I’m too nosy not to find out. I have to be sneaky about this. Stealth mode unlocked. I’ve got this. I’m hiding in the doorway behind the grand staircase.

Johnny and his date stumble out of the kitchen. They are obviously drunk. I can almost make out what they’re saying. This outta be good. They are getting closer to the foyer. “Let’s take a swim.” He says to her. I gasp and slip down the steps as quietly as possible. The indoor pool lights illuminate the greenhouse windows. Where the hell can I hide? I scan the room quickly. There’s windows all around and a door in the far corner. Maybe it’s a bathroom.

“I didn’t bring a bathing suit.” The bimbo says to him. “I was hoping you’d say that.” He said back to her. Ugh. What a scumbag. He probably had this all planned. “I’m gonna fuck you silly.” I hear him say. “You promise?” She laughs. They’re coming down the stairs.

Think fast.

I open the door in the corner and slide into a dark room. There’s a light switch on the wall but I’m afraid to turn it on. I tap my cellphone flashlight on low. All I see in here is a dark spiral staircase. That’s odd, I wonder where that goes? The old stairs creek as I climb them. At the top there’s another door. I crack it open just enough to see inside. It’s some kind of viewing room.

Why would someone want to see the pool from above? I look down from the window. Johnny is buck naked on the diving board facing the water. Why am I staring at his ass? I drop my phone and the sound echoes. It was so loud that Johnny turned around and looked in my direction. I duck below the window.

There’s no possible way he can see me. It’s too dark in here. I hold my breath until I realize I’m doing it. My knees are shaking. I stand up slowly and watch him dive into the water. He has the physique of a god damn superhero. The water ripples across his muscular build. He thinks he’s irresistible. The whore he brought home dances her jeans off. And then her shirt. Why am I watching this?

I desperately want to leave but I don’t want him to see me escape. He picks her up by the waist and twirls her around like a child in the water. She flips her long red hair over her shoulder as he lowers her down. He grabs a fistful of her hair and pulls her head back. He kisses her neck. I can’t watch anymore. There’s not one chair in here. I’ll just sit on the floor.

The grunting and moaning sounds are too hard to tune out. He sounds like an animal in the wild. Why is this my life? Are they done? Was that it? I don’t hear them anymore. I peek out to see Johnny railing her from behind on the pool steps. Doesn’t that hurt? She looks uncomfortable. I have to pee. What is taking so long? Just get it over with.

She’s screaming like she’s in a fucking porn movie. He yells, “Do you like that? You like it? Fuck!” I’m not sure why I’m still watching. It’s much like a train wreck. I can’t look away. Why isn’t he helping her up? He turns around.

He’s looking right at me.

There’s no way he knows I’m up here. It’s like he’s looking right through me. He almost looks angry. She stands up and grabs her clothes. He doesn’t even bother to hand her a towel. How can she put jeans on her wet body like that? He walks up the stairs naked. She follows behind him as she pulls her shirt over her head. He’s despicable. I gotta get out of here.

The door at the bottom of the stairs is locked from the inside. Don’t panic Wyatt. Just focus on your breathing. I turn the light on. There’s nothing in here other than an old bookcase and a mop in a bucket. I’m not seeing any sign of an intercom or a phone. I have my cell but I don’t want to call the castle this late. What if Johnny answered? I wouldn’t want to give him the satisfaction of knowing that I watched him screw her. What the hell am I gonna do?

My curiosity brings me to the bookcase. This is a castle after all. Maybe there’s a secret passage. No that’s too obvious. I try to pull a book out but it’s stuck. They’re all glued into the shelves. Maybe they’re not real books? Instead of pulling I push on the bookcase and it swivels. I’m a little nervous about what I might find but at this point it’s my only way out. Here we go.

I walk through to a secret hallway that leads me to another set of stairs. Trying to catch my bearings here. Maybe this will lead up towards the dining room. I push on the door at the top of the stairs. It doesn’t budge. There’s a doorknob. I twist it and the door opens into the garage. Good to know. I make my way into the kitchen. Johnny shocks me, “What the fuck? You scared the shit out of me.”

He puts his hand up to his beard, “Did you enjoy the show?” He asked me with a shit eating grin across his face.

Busted. This doesn’t make sense though, “How did you know I was up there?” He holds up his phone, “We have excellent surveillance here. I know where every one is.” He steps close enough for me to smell the booze on his breath. “And I know exactly what they’re doing at all times.” He’s sort of creeping me out at this point, “So you’re watching me?” He smiles, “Always.”
