He led the way through his suite all the way back into his bedroom. He eyed me warily as I immediately made my way to the velvet cushion in the corner and sat in my new formal resting position. Sophie had been right about everything that happened during their short negotiations this morning, so I figured it couldn’t hurt to continue following her instructions. As long as I was sitting quietly, he was likely to forget that I was there and burry himself in his work. Sniffing his shirt he made a face and chuckled, “Sophie’s always right.” He pulled the t-shirt off over his head, tossing it on the bed. “Can you be a good girl like she claims,” he arched an eyebrow, “Or do I have to get you all wet again.” I gave him a small shrug but kept a mask of indifference on my face. “Then at least make yourself useful and let them know to change out all of the bedding,” he disappeared into the bathroom, partially closing the door. After a minute or two, there was a
With a low animalistic growl, he yanked my hips forward, smashing our bodies together. My mind scrambled for a way out of this. His lips crashed into mine, in a rough and unpleasant kiss. He pressed too hard, bruising my lips and his tongue jabbed into my mouth like it was trying to spear my tonsils as his fingers tangled in my hair and pulled my head back. How did someone who could elicit reactions from my body with so much finesse not know how to kiss? A kiss! It had been one of his terms at breakfast, a real kiss of my own volition. It was an act of desperation, and it could backfire, but anything else would better than this unyielding torrent of tongue stabbing that could only lead to darker impulses. Surprisingly, he yielded as I gently pushed his chest back, forcing him to pull away. He looked down at me, his eyes dark and brooding. Forcing a small smile, I curled my arms up and around his neck, letting my fingers run through his hair. “Let’s try
As the sun started to stream into the room through the windows, I found myself nestled snuggly into his side with my leg draped over his and my head resting on his chest. I must have gotten cold while I slept. That was the only reasonable explanation because even now he put off heat like a campfire. The last thing I needed was for him to wake up and find me pressed against him. It was possible I’d wake him if I tried to unwrap myself, but I had to risk it. Holding my breath, I faked a slow stretched and rolled away from him onto my other side. Pretending to still be asleep I tried to lay still and keep my breaths even, waiting to see if I woke him. He seemed to still be sleeping. A series of knocks came through the different rooms until the culprit made their way to the bedroom door. “Alpha,” I groaned inwardly at the sound of Nathan’s voice, “Are you up yet?” He knocked louder, waiting for an answer. Next to me, he grow
The morning began with shouting and slamming doors. Breakfast had been brought in and set up without waking us, but Dmitri made sure we got up when he came in. Without giving us time to wipe the sleep from our eyes, the fight between the two siblings began. He was furious that we weren’t up already, but that was nothing compared to his rage about Sophie taking me to raid their mother’s closet. “It’s not like anyone was using them or coming to claim them! Maybe you should have let the poor girl pack a bag before dragging her back here like a fucking caveman!” “You crossed the wrong line this time Sophia!” he roared, “I think I’ve lost my appetite this morning!” Grabbing my wrist, he stormed out of her rooms, dragging me behind him, and ignoring her protests. He released his grip on me when we made it to his bedroom; all the doors between us and Sophia had been slammed shut. I stood there like a child ready to be scolded while he paced a
I didn’t sleep for very long. I remade the bed and folded up the clothes he’d had me remove. I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to let him know I was awake or not, but the office door remained closed. I opted to comb out my hair and spend the time I had alone staring out the windows. I had to use the drapes to keep my nudity concealed, as I stood there watching life continue on the paths and lawns between the buildings that I could see. A tray had been left while I was sleeping. A pitcher of tea along with some containers of chopped fruit, bottled water and wrapped sandwiches were neatly placed on the tray. I figured it had been left as my lunch and I made sure to eat enough to last, unsure if I’d be given diner tonight. I found myself snacking on the fruit throughout the afternoon as I watched out the window. The sky had already begun to turn orange before the door opened again. I raced to the end of the bed, trying to toss my hair behind me and clasp my
I was awakened by a light tapping on the bedroom door. Stretching out, I was surprisingly disappointed when I found I was alone in the bed. The tapping came again a little louder, “Uh… Miss, um… Alexandria…” Blake’s voice stammered on the other side of the door. “I’m supposed to make sure you make it across the hall.” Panic hit as I bolted upright, clutching the blankets around me. “Uh, just a minute,” I answered, not wanting to have to walk across the hall naked. To my surprise, the pajama set he’d ordered me to strip off was on the pillow in his place. Smiling to myself, certain now that I’d done something right last night; I pulled the clothes on and made my way over to the door, twisting my hair up in a bun. “Good morning Blake,” I greeted him with a beaming smile. He looked surprised as he took in my smile. “Ummm, morning,” he responded, “Miss…” “My parents called me Alex,” he looked unsure, “but my friends called me Lexi.”
After antagonizing Candice, spending lunch with Dmitri and gaining a new project, Sophie seemed bored with venturing around the house now. A chair had been set out in the hall, assumedly for Blake, when we found our way back up to the suites. Flopping on the sofa, she eyed me suspiciously, “What exactly happened last night to put my brother in such a generous mood today? Not to mention, that kiss in the kitchen!” She giggled, “I did enjoy watching Candy turn that peculiar shade of purple when Dimi wrapped his arms around you. I thought her head was going to explode!” I just shrugged and spread my palms, unsure of what to tell her. “I can’t explain it.” I tried to think of a way to tell her what I felt in that moment, “Candy just makes me want to... You know, I think I hate her, and I’d like to drop kick her across the room when I see her.” It was a statement, but it sounded more like a question as I said it. She grinned at me, “Oh, my god! You like him
Breakfast went by in a blur. We were curled up on the couch, still in our pajamas with our mugs of coffee, when Dmitri joined us. Giving Dmitri a quick kiss, instead of sitting as a decoration today, I sat in the chair beside him. It was mostly a repeat of lunch from the day before. The twins held a conversation about contracts with vendors, while I tried to ignore the hand caressing my thigh so I could navigate food into my mouth. Afterwards Sophie bounced off to get dressed for her busy day and I was guided by a hand on the small of my back across the hall to his suite. I couldn’t remember the last time I felt this anxious. My heart was racing so fast, I thought that it would pound its way out through my chest. I had no clue where the day would lead after the last day I’d spent with him. He did seem to be in an exceptionally good mood today. He was humming as he closed the doors of his suite behind us. Even his smile seemed brighter than usual, happy instead of smug.
