Three Parents

“Fuck! Fuck! Fuuck!”

Lee and Grayson looked at me like I was insane.

“Yeah, I thought that you would be your reaction,” Dr. Conner stated.

“No, this isn’t…it’s not possible!” I cried.

“Actually it is…what are you doing right now? Can the three of you come to the hospital, I feel that we should discuss this in person.”

“Yes, please, because this doesn’t make any sense at all to me!”

“Okay, just breathe and come now.”

I hung up.

“So?” Lee asked.

“We gotta go to the hospital.”

I would let Dr. Conner share the news with them, because if I did it, I might puke.

“No! That’s impossible!” Grayson exclaimed.

“There’s no way!” Lee shouted.

“Gentlemen, please calm down and let me explain,” Dr. Conner said soothingly.

They took a deep breath and nodded.

“This is very possible and it has happened before. It’s called heteropaternal superfecundation.”

“Try saying that five times fast!” I laughed hysterically.

“Basically Scarlett released multiple eggs during ovulation and you each fertilized one. So you are both the father.”

“Wait, so my kids are both twins and half siblings?” I asked. “I’m gonna fucking faint!”

“I’ll get you some water,” Dr. Conner said, getting up and leaving the room.

“This can’t be happening,” Lee whispered.

“Well you both got what you wanted,” I panted. “You both wanted to be a father and look now you get to do it! All of us are going to be parents! Isn’t that great? Just fuckin peachy keen, right?”

“Scar-”

“I’m sorry,” I interrupted Grayson. “It’s just I thought this was going to be over! I thought no more triangle or choices or anything like that and now…your babies are inside of me. My little peanuts are all of our peanuts. What the fuck am I supposed to do now?!”

“We’ll figure it out,” Grayson assured me, grabbing my hands. “Both Lee and I will be here for you every step of the way.”

“That’s what I’m afraid of! I still have to make a fucking choice!”

“Um, at least you got like eight months,” Lee pointed out.

“Eight long months of carrying two kids that won't have the same father. You realize we’re bound for life right? There's no cutting ties between the three of us like ever.” I breathed.

“Yeah but that's okay right?” Grayson asked. “I mean we can all handle that like adults, right?”

“No! We haven’t handled it like adults so far!” I stated. “And we still keep shit from each other.”

“Like what?” Lee questioned.

“Have either of you told each other that you kissed me?”

They widened their eyes before glaring at each other.

“You broke the rules!” They chorused.

“See what I mean?” I sighed. “This is going to be a mess.”

Dr. Connor entered the room again. “So how are we feeling?”

“I heard that women can have one glass of wine a day during pregnancy,” I started. “Please tell me that’s true.”

--

“Your  life is fucking hysterical!”

“This isn’t funny, Skyler!” I exclaimed.

“I’m sorry, but what are the odds that the two men that were fighting over you are both the father of one of your children? Like I’m sorry, but someone has it out for you!” She chuckled. “And you still have to choose. That’s so sick.”

“Who are you telling?” I sighed. “And we have to tell our families. It’s going to be horrible. Even worse than when they just wanted me to marry the boys.”

“So when are you dropping the baby bomb?”

“I’m gonna tell my friends first just to test the waters and then we’re gonna tackle our families.”

“I do not envy you one bit!” Skyler chuckled. “But now can you tell me who you chose in your dream originally?”

I didn’t want to say it outloud, so I grabbed a pen and wrote it on the napkin and slid it over to her.

“Really?” She asked. “Hm…honestly I think I would have picked the other guy.”

My house was once again full of my friends.

Most of them had no idea what they were doing there, but I knew there was no way they would even guess this.

“Do you need help with another presentation?” Lincoln asked. “Not to be an asshole, but I’m starting to think that you don’t need help, you just want to show us up.”

“Oh, good I didn’t want to be the first person to say that,” Carter sighed in relief. “Seriously Scarlett, sometimes it feels like you’re rubbing it in our face that you’re better than us at this.”

“Is that how you all feel?” I asked.

“Yes.” They chorused.

“Oh…well you’re all a bunch of spoiled rich brats, excuse me for being good at this!” I snapped.

“Scar,” Lee scolded.

“That’s not what this is about,” Grayson reminded me.

“Right,” I nodded. “Um, so my announcement is that I'm pregnant.”

“Cough it up!” Lulu laughed. “Come on, one hundred bucks every one of you!”

“Huh?” I asked.

“I knew you were pregnant,” Lulu stated. “I mean you had to be. You’ve been weird and you don’t drink…and your hair is shinier. These guy didn’t believe me.”

“Thanks a lot Scarlett,” Carter grumbled, handing his girlfriend her win.

“Seriously, have you ever heard of birth control?” Analeigh rolled her eyes.

“Okay, my announcement isn’t done,” I declared. “I’m not just having one baby, I’m having twins.”

“Oh this is the juicy triangle drama you were talking about!” Lincoln said giddily. “Okay, so which one of you is the father? Ooh can you give us a moment to take bets?”

Seeing as there wouldn’t be a real winner I didn’t mind. “Fine, place your bets.”

The boys stared at me like I was crazy. I shrugged. Might as well have some fun with it.

“Okay, we’re ready.” Carter announced. “Can the father of Scarlett’s babies please stand up.”

Lee stood up first, causing Lulu and Lincoln to cheer. And then when Grayson stood up too, they were all confused.

“What the fuck is going on?” Analeigh demanded.

“It’s a really funny story,” I forced a laugh. “Grayson and Lee are each the father of one of my babies.”

“Heteropaternal superfecundation!” Carter exclaimed. We all looked at him in shock.

“How the hell do you know that?” Grayson asked.

“Happened with my aunt. She liked cheating.”

“Wait so this is like a real thing?” Lulu asked. “The three of you are having babies.”

“It seems so,” Lee sighed. “It’s um gonna be kind of complicated, but Scarlett and the babies matter most, so we’re going to make it work.”

“Can I ask something?” Lincoln spoke up.

“Sure,” I stated.

“Which kid is gonna be richer?”

“Really Lincoln?!”

“Okay I have a question too!” Analeigh said excitedly. “Have you ever thought that becoming a throuple would solve your problems?”

“No!” Lee and Grasyson chorused.

I shrugged. “What can I say? My baby daddies are not adventurous.”
