3. Luck

"If these five cookie plates are all evenly matched, then I'll break the rules for once by agreeing to take on all five of these girls here as our mansion's maids!"

I really didn't think I'd be so fortunate, but my excitement was abruptly cut in half when I found out that the five of us would be going to Mrs. Luna's room to do our work in the days to come. This is because Mrs. Luna was pregnant, and as a result, she requires the assistance of additional maids.

It was arranged for me to serve Madam Anna's difficult third daughter-in-law, and for some reason, deep down inside, I felt an overwhelming sense of insecurity about the situation. I have an unshakeable intuition that in the not-too-distant future, a lot of unfortunate events are going to take place.

There will be new maids like we arranged to share a spacious room reserved for maids. Our living space consists of nothing more than a single bed despite the fact that this location is quite large; however, the number of maids working in the mansion is also quite large. To my good fortune, Daisy's and my beds are not too far apart from one another.

A large shadow entered the maid's room as we were getting dressed in the uniform that belonged to the Curie family so that we could receive instructions on what our duties and responsibilities would be. It turned out to be none other than Mrs. White in that location. She has come to this location in order to move me to another room.

Because Mrs. White's expression was so icy at the time, the only thing I could do was nervously follow behind her without having the courage to inquire as to where I would be taken. We were finally successful in following Mrs. White, and it turned out that the room she was moved to was Madam Anna's room.

"Take a seat!" As soon as I stepped in front of Madam Anna, she issued a command.

Before I heard the rest of what Madam Anna had to say, I squatted down in the plush chair that was there. "About you voluntarily going to the chicken coop to collect an egg to prepare the butter cake, I heard Mrs. White narrated," Madam Anna said. "I have made the decision to hire you as my family's maid solely due to the fact that you are a kind person. However, now that you work for our family as a maid, you are under strict orders not to wander around, not to tell any outsiders about the Curie family's history, and to only concentrate on your duties and responsibilities. You would be able to maintain your employment at this location if you were able to keep these things in mind. In the event that you do not comply, you will be expelled from this mansion, and you will no longer be able to find employment with any other wealthy families in this city. Do you realize what it is that I'm trying to say, Jasmine?

As soon as I heard that, I made a pouting face, nodded my head, and responded, "Yes, Madam, I comprehend now!"

"OK! "You need to get back to work!"

After I had left, Madam Anna turned to Mrs. White and asked, "Did you lock the door to that barn carefully?" (I had just left at this point).

Mrs. White's expression was one of sheer terror as she responded, "Yes, Madam, I have locked it up. It was my mistake that caused this maid to enter it, but she claimed that she only saw a hen, so it all boils down to the fact that..."

The response from Madam Anna was icy: "That is why I agreed to take her in so that we could keep this secret. In the future, you need to exercise significantly more caution. After you have provided that individual with food, be sure to carefully lock the door!"

Mrs. White replied in horror, "I get it! It is impossible for this to take place again!

Following the departure from Madam Anna's chamber, I went back to the maid's room. Then, Daisy and I joined three newly hired maids for a lesson on how to serve Mrs. Luna in a thoughtful manner. When we finally finished acquiring the required information, it was already getting dark outside. We are also permitted to return to the room that the maids are staying in so that we can rest there. The maid room, which had been quite large at one point, was subdivided into several smaller rooms so that the maids could better attend to the needs of the master. As a result, my bed and Daisy are currently located in the space occupied by the other maids who work for Mrs. Luna.

In the past, there were already five maids providing services for Mrs. Luna. There were a total of ten maids working there when the five of us were allowed to enter. I gave the group of five elderly people a quick glance and felt my stomach drop when I realized they were looking at me with curious eyes. The faces of the other four, with the exception of Alex, were quite authoritative, just like hers. They cast hostile glances in our direction, all five of us together. Thankfully, Daisy is also standing next to me, which helps to alleviate some of the fear that we both feel.

Because we put in a lot of effort throughout the day, falling asleep comes relatively quickly. But the noise in the room suddenly woke me up in the middle of the night, and I couldn't go back to sleep. On the exterior, it was still completely dark. There was a maid who sneaked off to the corner of the room to light a lamp. Alex's irritated face was illuminated by the dim light coming from that direction. "The earrings that Mrs. Luna gave me were lost. It would appear that I diligently tucked them under my pillow before turning in for the night; however, when I awoke in the middle of the night, I looked everywhere for them but could not locate them. This is really out of the ordinary!"

A sarcastic voice belonging to another maid intervened and said, "Of course! Alex's earrings can't just disappear like that. Some new people have just moved into our room today. It's worth it! You should have been more careful, sister!”

When she uttered those words, it was abundantly clear that she intended to imply that one of the five maids who had just moved in had taken the earrings. Daisy and I exchanged anxious glances, and then we heard Alex say one sentence in a calm and collected manner. The sentence "If so, we need to search in order to find the thief!" made the five of us feel anxious about the situation.

Alex was Mrs.'s closest maid. Luna, so naturally, she is the head of this room. So, after hearing, Alex said that the old maids who were serving Mrs. Luna then aggressively approached the five of us to interrogate us. Suddenly, the maid said in a sour tone to Daisy, who was standing next to Alex's bed, "You'll be the first to be searched because you're in the closest proximity to her belongings. Get up and move out of the way so I can check your bed."

On the surface of the ground, a metallic "Keng" sound could be heard. Daisy's pillow dropped one of her earrings, which landed on the floor, while the other remained on her bedside table. Daisy witnessed this scene, and as expected, she was taken aback to the point where she could do nothing more than wave her hand in front of everyone and ask, "Why is that? It's not true that I took Alex's earrings...

"You dare say you are innocent? How can you defend yourself when there is overwhelming evidence pointing to your guilt? Sister Alex, what are your suggestions for dealing with this thief?"

I turned around just in time to see Alex sneer, "What else? Of course, I would bring her to Mrs. Luna to handle! This greedy girl who just entered the Curie Family has been stealing. Let me see if her arms will be hit to be broken or not?"

Alex's words were obeyed, and the people there pulled Daisy away from the room. I tried to hug her but I couldn't. I was in the middle of that and realized all of a sudden that there was a problem with these earrings. Immediately, I yelled, "Stop!"

When Alex heard that he scoffed and glared at me with a cold expression, asking, "You dare disobey my words?"

I quickly crouched down and picked up the earrings with a handkerchief. After that, I went quietly to the table there and poured myself a cup of tea, and then I finally placed the earrings on the table. The water in the teacup had a film of oil floating on top of it. These earrings, too, have olive oil on them.

Even though they had wide-eyed expressions on their faces, the people there were clueless about what was taking place. I spoke slowly while pointing to the earrings and saying, "These earrings have some olive oil on them. The thief who stole it applied it to her hair with olive oil before doing so. Both Daisy and Alex didn't make any use of this oil in their routines. Only one individual is making use of it..."

Everyone's eyes were now focused on the maid who had raised her sour voice earlier. I didn't hesitate to point my finger straight at her: "Only she uses. Surely she stole Sister Alex's earrings and put all the blame on Daisy, so the olive oil would have been left on the pair of these earrings. Look at her hands!"

That dishonest maid overheard me say that, and she quickly pulled her hand behind her back and began clutching her garments. This action provides evidence that she is the one who committed the theft. I let out an icy chuckle, and after that, I hugged Daisy and pulled her closer to me. After that, I said, "We had only been a part of the Curie family for a day. You don't have to be in such a rush to borrow this in order to smear our reputation. Looks like we need Mrs. Luna to do justice!"

When Alex found out about that, he gave me the knowing look and said, "You're also a bit smart. But tell me, do you think Mrs. Luna will take your advice into consideration?

It turned out that the person behind the plot was Alex. Just now, she was just robbing and shouting. I let out a sigh as I reflected on how life was going to be so tragic in the future and how I had no idea what Daisy had done to Alex for Alex to treat her in such a cruel manner.

Having a look at Alex's facial expression, the sentence that was just said helped me piece together what was going on. Finally, I merely uttered in a low voice, "Of course, I don't want to make a big deal. All I can do is hope that I will be able to perform my duty in the future without risking my safety. It's not a bad idea to train to be a good maid!"

Alex sneered at the statement and said, "It's good that you understand things like that. I'm not afraid to tell you that Mrs. Luna is upset with this girl because she has offended her. The only member of the Curie family who is currently pregnant is Mrs. Luna. You have a responsibility to discover who your true master is. The day before, this girl exhibited such profound idiocy. She had the audacity to insult Mrs. Luna by making Mrs. Lauriel seem like such a charming person. Therefore, we made an effort to instruct her in the appropriate behaviors that she should exhibit. It is not for no reason at all to instruct this young lady! Understand?"

I tried to think about it, finally remembering an important detail. Yesterday, Daisy combed Mrs. Lauriel's hair and selected jewelry for her, giving her a noble aura. This offended Mrs. Luna, as Alex's sentence.

It seemed that Daisy had understood about it. She quietly and obediently said: "From today on, I know who my master is, I only ask for your forgiveness. Please ignore my mistakes."
