His eyes fell on me immediately. There was a flash of aggression in his gaze, but I looked away. It was better for the things to go back to the way they were. I didn’t know Adrian’s whereabouts and he was not aware of my existence.

“Oh, don’t mind Kaya’s words, August.” Leila snatched her legs back, frowning, “she is stupid. You don’t have to do this.”

“It is alright.” I mumbled extending my hands again to take off her slipper, “this is my duty. You are our guest.”

Grabbing the back of her leg, I pulled the brand new, white slippers out of her feet and stood up, “I will bring you a new pair. There are ruggy ones that are soft enough for you to walk inside your room and inside the pack house comfortably.”

I bowed my head, and walked out of the room. I did not dare to lift up my eyes to look at any of them. I could already imagine everyone’s expressions. Lucinda must be smirking, Leila must be felling guilty, Kaya should be arrogantly smug, and Adrian… I don’t know what he would be
