Chapter 12

"Paris," Everlee heard Mrs. Poppy knocking down her door.

She quickly put down the book she was reading and ran over to open the door.

"Where is Paris?" Mrs. Poppy inquired gravely.

"I don't know," Everlee answered cluelessly.

Mrs. Poppy stormed into the room.

"I know you're lying," said Mrs. Poppy.

"Why would I lie about Paris's whereabouts?" Everlee asked her mom staring at her confused.

Mrs. Poppy walked towards her and stared into her eyes.

"You truly don't know," she said.

"I have to go and find her." She left the room.

"Mom," Everlee called.

Mrs. Poppy didn't stop.

Everlee began to worry about Paris discovering what had happened. She knew Paris must have become cold feet about meeting the suitor she was arranged to be married to and left home without anyone knowing. She went over to her bedroom window staring at the sky as it slowly darkens hoping Mrs. Poppy finds her and that she was out there safe.

Paris sat there silently now in the dark having only the moonlight.
