Chapter 88

I stopped to catch my breath along with the children when we arrived at the city, quite safe now. I ignored the stares of the people, holding the girls tight, and walking deeper into the city to make it harder for them to find us even if they tried looking for us here.

"Shit." I cussed when I looked down at my feet, the reason why people wouldn't stop staring at me like some mentally retarded person. I was barefooted and my feet were really dirty. I must've been focused on escaping and filled with adrenaline that I hadn't realized I had no footwear on. Thankfully, the girls weren't barefooted like me, they still had their shoes from school on.

The big problem here was how to survive, how to get out of this country. If we stayed too long here I was sure they would find us again, and I heard no money even if I wanted us to run. I guess I'm left with no choice but to beg for alms.

The twenty-seventh woman did not even pay me attention but walked away, without even sparing me a glance.
