Chapter Ten

Hailey knew she would never be able to reconnect with her best friend again. Everything Anna ever built was built on trust. It was everything for her, trust. Hailey got up from where she was seated and sat beside Anna.

“I can tell you’re still mad at me, it’s pretty obvious but I just want to let you know that I’m still here for you. If you ever need anything, I am one call away. I would come right down for you. I am always going to be here for you and we are in this together”

Anna looked at her best friend and sighed. She was going to reply her when she heard Alex grunt. Something crashed along the sitting room below her. She stood up from where she was seated. She motioned to Hailey to be quiet and she listened. She knew someone was in here and they were not alone.

“Stay here and don’t leave this room until I ask you to!”

“I can help!”

“No you can’t. Just stay here please”

“What do you mean by I can’t? I have been a vampire longer than you have. Let me help you!” Hailey argued

“I am not going to have an argument with you over this. Stay here!” Anna said as she headed down.

She got down and saw the place in a mess. Damian had his hand around someone’s neck.

“Who sent you? What do you want?!” Damian screamed at him

“What I want? That is what I want standing right there” the man said, pointing at Anna.

“Why?!” Damian screamed at him.

“Because that was what I was sent to do” he said

“Who sent you?” Damian asked

“Phillip. He sent me. Your father sent me!”

Anna sped to Damian and grabbed the man from him. She pushed her fist into his chest and ripped out his heart. She dropped his body and dropped his heart right beside him. She turned saw her best friend staring at her in horror. She didn’t care anymore. They had taken her mother from her and she was going to kill every one of them. She could tell that Hailey didn’t approve of her ways.

“I thought I told you to stay in my room!”

“You are not my Mom and you didn’t have to kill him”

“Yes I did”

“No you didn’t! You could have let him live, you should have let him live. That was someone’s son and someone’s father! You have no right to take a life as you please! C’mon! This isn’t you!” her best friend yelled at her.

“Then who am I? What are you saying? They killed my mom! The only parent I had. I don’t care about who I am anymore Hailey! I am going to kill every one of them till I find whoever is behind this and I am going to kill him too!”

“ And when you do? What next?”

“I would wait till I get to that bridge. When I get there, I will cross it!”

“She is right Annabelle! You killed him too early. I have lots of questions that are unanswered” Damian said, screaming at her.

“You know who to ask! Go to your fucked up father and ask him why he is so insistent on ending every member of my family” She said

“Don’t talk about my father that way! We are not even certain that he is the one behind this!”

“What other evidence do you need?”

“A whole lot more. I need more than just what someone said”

“You don’t! You are just blinded. You have always been blinded and you forever will be. You have to pick a side, Damian! It’s either you’re with me or you’re against me! You can’t be in the middle because when I find your father, I will kill him and if you stand in my way, then I will be left with no option than to kill you too!” She said as she walked out of the house, slamming the door behind her.

She was angry and hurt as hell. She knew that she wasn’t supposed to have taken a life that way but what choice was she left with? She had just started to fix things with her mom and her mom was taken away from her, just like that! She wasn’t ready to let her mom go, not yet, maybe not ever. She didn’t have the chance to say goodbye. She didn’t have the chance to tell her she loved her or to tell her she was sorry. She was angry at everybody buy most importantly, she was angry at herself. She got to a bar and ordered a shot of tequila. She took it down with one gulp. She ordered a other, and another. She was on her sixth cup when she heard a voice.

“Bad night?” someone asked but she gave no reply

He took a seat beside her and ordered a drink.

“I will advice you to buzz off” she said without looking at him.

“I would love to but that sounds like a challenge”

She looked at him and he smiled at her. He was cute and nice. That wasn’t the combination she was expecting

“It is a challenge, buzz off!” she said

“Thanks for the offer but no!” he said back and his eyes glowed

She figured that he was a wolf.

“A wolf, I see” she said

“And how does a human like you seem to know about my kind?” he asked.

“That’s probably because I’m not human” she said as her eyes glowed and her fangs came out.

“Woah, you’re hybrid?” he asked.

“I’m Anna”

“Caleb here” he said, extending his hand.

She took it and smiled. She did need the company.

“So, do you want to talk about what’s eating you up?” he said pointing at the empty cups on the table.

“Its nothing, it’s just family drama” she said as she took the sixth cup.

“I could get it off your mind for a little while” he said, looking at her seductively, getting up from where he was sitting, stretching out his hand.

“I don’t mind” she said as she took his hand and got up.

He led her outside and he pinned her on the wall. His lips met hers and she took it in. Despite the taste of the alcohol, she could tell how he tasted like. He tasted like honey and coconut. It was heavenly.

“We shouldn’t be doing this out here” Caleb said.

“I don’t mind. We are in front of a club for goodness sakes. Nobody cares what we do anywhere!”

“My car is parked around the side of the building. C’mon, let’s get there. The crowd here is quite a number” he said as he pulled her to the side of the building.

He kissed her and lifted her off her feet. He let her sit on the trunk of his car as his hand went around her waist. He pulled her close and kissed her deeper. She moaned in his mouth but her phone beeped. She brought it out from her pocket and looked at it. It was Alex. Arielle couldn’t find him.

“I have to bail, I’m sorry”

“I am guessing it’s another boyfriend calling!” he said, jealousy quietly creeping into his voice

“It is not another boyfriend. There is no other boyfriend. It’s my brother, he’s missing”

“What? You have a brother that is hybrid?” he asked with mockery.

“Yes and he’s missing. I have to go”

“Can I at least get a phone number or something?” he said.

She collected his phone and gave him her number. He dialed it and her phone rang.

“I would call you later at night” He said.

“I would be expecting it” she said as she got down from the car

“Do you want a drive up to your place?”

“Are you kidding me right now?” she said.

She scoffed and she sped off. He was surprised. He knew vampires were fast but not that fast. He guessed it came with being an hybrid. She got back home and the first person she saw was Justin. She barely spoke to him so she walked past him but he stopped her.

“We need to talk” He said

“There is nothing to talk about. If the conversation is about Damian or his father, I don’t think I have anything to say…..”

“You are right. Phillip needs to be stopped. I agree with you. He is behind all of this and he needs to be stopped. That is why you need to go to Cordina with Damian. You have to kill him” Justin said, interrupting her.

“Wait, you’re agreeing with me? You’re not supposed to, I think”

“ I don’t know. All I know is the truth. Damian is blinded by what he feels for his father and it is going to get him killed if we are not careful so before it gets to that, I need to take care of Phillip but you can’t do this without Damian. I know you probably hate him for not supporting you earlier but you need to understand him. It is all very hard for him to take all of this in. As bad as his father is, he still loves him regardless. You just have to patient with Damian”

Justin said as he grabbed his jacket

“You’re leaving?” She asked

“Yes, Damian told me you saw Cassie at the scene yesterday. I need to know why she was there. Something doesn’t feel right. I am going to find out what. I would be gone for a couple of days. Keep an eye on Damian for me” He said as he headed out of the house.

She sighed and she headed up to her room. She opened the door and saw Damian there. He stood up and he turned to leave. She didn’t know what to do so she left him to be. She went out to look for her brother and she found him in the grave yard. She wasn’t expecting to see him there. She walked up to him and stood beside him. She looked at the grave. It had a name on it ‘Darius O’Connor’

“I wasn’t expecting to see you here. Arielle said she couldn’t reach you and she got really worried. Now I was going to tell her you were probably fine and in your own space but she wouldn’t listen so I had to come look for you”

“I made this grave. There is no body in it. It just made me feel closer to Dad since I had nobody else. Now, mom is gone and the same feeling is back. The same feeling of emptiness and loneliness”

“Hey, you are not alone. I mean we are orphans now but at least we have each other. I wouldn’t die on you. We are going to get this bastard and we are going to kill him, I promise” she said, holding his hand.

He hugged her and he kissed her forehead. She was all he had left. He didn’t know what he would do if something happened to her. He was so scared of losing her and being alone again. That was his greatest enemy. He sighed and sniffed her hair. She hugged him tighter and he rested his chin on her head. He was so worried about everything. He didn’t want his sister to have to pick between avenging her father and hating her mate. He already witnessed one argument between them and he didn’t like what he saw. He knew his sister acted irrationally but what did he expect? She had just lost her mother to his father.

“Would you be okay?” he asked his sister

“Of course I would be. Would you be?” She asked him back

“I am not the one caught up in a twisted drama. Your boyfriend’s dad is your mom’s killer. That is really twisted” He said as they laughed

He took her by the hand and they headed home
