Chapter 8 On the way Alpha

Jerica’s POV

I got up at 9 am this morning. Just enough time to have all my things together. Alpha had already mind linked me that he was sending Joseph to pick me up He was our Gamma and third in command. He trusted him to deliver me safely so he could interrogate me about my best friend. I got all my things together and was waiting outside when a black Nissan centre pulled up with tinted windows. I assumed since it pulled into the house it was going to be Joseph. Only to see the window roll down to see that it was Jake with a sneaky grin across his face. I could help but chuckle back and roll my eyes.

“You are clearly not Joseph. He is much less annoying. “ I call out to him as I into the car. He chuckles and say “After your outing last night I was very surprised to find out that you had pissed him off enough to ask my brother to come retrieve you this morning. So as a gentleman thinking about texting you today and thought it would be much more polite to show up in person and take you back to the pack house.” He counted. “I didn’t piss the Alpha off! He just has some questions about my friend.” I snapped back. “Your she-wolf friend?” He began driving down the road the towards the city and the pack house just on the other side of it. “Could you tell too? Last night when you saw her?” I asked. “I could sense her wolf but the scent was off” Jake replied. At least I am not crazy.

After a few minutes I was lost in my thoughts about how my best friend of almost 4 years has also been a wolf and I didn’t know – Hell! She didn’t know! How would I even approach this with her? Why was my Alpha also so intrigued  with her? The questions just kept coming in my mind.

Jake POV

I could tell she was concerned for her friend. Im not sure what the whole story is there but I knew that was one of her best friends and Jerica was a loyal friend. Having to be brought  to the Alpha for questioning about her couldn’t be easy. I guess it would be typical though. Any wolf that didn’t belong to our pack coming into our territory would be questioned – possibly tortured for trespassing. Any other wolfs would have reached out ahead of time for permission from our Alpha or stopped at the border to get it then if it was urgent.

Jerica was as beautiful as ever. She wore a pair of shorts, her legs stretch out in the passenger floorboard. and a tank top fitting just snug enough around her breast to show enough cleavage for me to appreciate. Her scent was sweet like honey with a bit of wildflowers mixed in. Being closed in the car had my wolf going crazy wanting to reach out and touch her.

We had been sitting without talking and the radio softly playing for noise. I knew I had to snap her out of her thoughts. With out hesitation I reached over placing my palm on the top of her leg, “So you think you’re the hottest she-wolf I know?” Glancing between her and the road.  She just chuckled. “I see you checked to make sure I actually put a number in your phone.” She smiled looking out the window. She appeared comfortable with my hand resting just behind her knee. “Now the real question is if it’s the right number?” This caused her to laugh out loud and turn to face me causing my hand to slide on the inside of her thigh. “Why would I give you the wrong one? If I did you would just mind-link me to annoy me?” She retorted. Causing us both to laugh. When she stopped her gaze fell to my hand. I waited to see her reaction. “Jake,” she began “I do like you; I just I am so close to my first shift and I am sure you have noticed I have purposefully not got involved with anyone despite a couple guys offers to date until we found our mates.” I listened carefully to what she said next. “You have been someone that I have cared for and enjoy our friendship for most of my life and while you may be pleasing to look at and we could have fun and date until then and knowing that you still haven’t found your mate yet I wouldn’t mind but it would all be pointless in about 2 months if I found mine. I wouldn’t want to endanger our friendship.” She was rambling. “Jerica, We don’t have to date we don’t have to do anything. We are just comfortable with each other and I would never take anything that you were saving for your mate. I care about you and respect you.” I leaned over and kissed her cheek watching her blush and lean back. We were coming across the other side of the city about to cross into the tree line that would last a mile or two before coming into the pack house. I left my hand on the top of her thigh. Touching her just a little helps me keep my wolf at bay. Happy to be close to our mate and touching her. I couldn’t wait until she shifted the first full moon after her birthday. I couldn’t wait to mark her as mine. It made me happy that she had been waiting on me, well her mate. It was just unbeknownst to her to that it was me.
