A Quick Errand, To City Hall

“Why him?!” Selena argued, “Why am I bringing the enemy with me to City hall?”

Her father took a moment to think before closing the screen on his tablet. “With your older brother out today, there’s no one at home who can protect your mother and Anthony.” He reasoned.

Anger swelled in Selena. “You’re acting like I’m as strong as him!” She yelled back.

Her father closed his eyes. “You’re not, but should he cause a scene at City hall, will you be alone?” Her father explained.

Selena clenched her teeth. As much as she hated the thought of taking him with her, he was right. At home he could run amok, especially if he truly let loose, that kind of strength could destroy not only their home but also the homes of humans living in the neighborhood whereas if he tried anything around city hall, there was no way he would live.

“Fine!” She said as she made her way towards the basement.

“Thank you!” her father shouted as she stormed down the old stairs, “I’ll leave the letter on the counter!”

Once at the bottom, she took a deep breath. “Put your pride away, this is for Anthony and Mom.” She convinced herself.

Selena turned the corner and was surprised to see Samson on the ground doing pushups in his cell.

“No early morning adventure today?” She asked, already regretting the words coming out of her mouth.

He looked up mid pushup, mumbling something inaudibly before looking back down and continuing.

Selena was taken aback. Did he really ignore me? She asked Penny who was silently studying Samson through Selena’s eyes.

“Agh!” Samson grunted as he stopped before standing up, “One-hundred.”

“Not today, why did you miss me?” Samson smiled.

“Hell no!” Selena fired back.

“Listen…” She started before realizing where the conversation would go.

I can’t tell him to come with me, it’ll basically be a date to him! She turned to Penny.

Sacrifices have to be made some time, Penny advised.

“Continue.” Samson said after a few seconds of nothing from Selena.

Her body straightened up and her eyes widened as she looked at him.

For the good of the pack dear, Penny said.

Something clicked for Selena, the same thing that had always clicked when a decision was needed to be made for the pack. “I need to go out for an errand, you’re coming with me.” She ordered.

What… WHAT!! Samson shouted at Skull.

Loud… Skull mumbled.

She’s asking me out on a date!! Samson told himself in glee, Thank you bonehead boy!

Selena took a deep breath. “I know that look on your face, this is the furthest thing from a date,” She popped Samson’s dream bubble, “You’re the biggest security threat we have and knowing how you can easily break out of that cell with your brute strength you’re too dangerous to leave at home.”

“Sure.” Samson said smugly.

Angry and annoyed, Selena went to the laundry room and grabbed a white shirt and black pants and brought them down to Samson. “Wear this, I can’t have you wearing those rags to City hall.” She said before disappearing upstairs.

“Security threat huh?” Samson said as he grabbed the clothes and dressed himself, “First time I've heard that… granted anyone else who can say that is already dead.”

He carefully put the clothes on and to his surprise they fit perfectly. After buttoning the shirt, Samson debated whether he should tuck it in but decided against it, thinking that an untucked shirt gave him more mobility. The long sleeves felt strange on his wrists leading him to pull them up.

“Are you ready?” Selena shouted from the stairs.

Once she made her way down, she had to be extra careful not to show any expression. He looks ho- NO! She stopped herself.

“Looks good doesn’t it?” Samson smiled at her getting caught off guard himself.

Instantly he was frozen by her beauty. She was wearing simple black pants and a flannel shirt with the front tied together and the sleeves loosely rolled up. Her white hair was tied into a ponytail and through the opened buttons, a white tank top could be seen.

“You look beautiful.” Samson said.

Selena froze. “Don’t ever tell me that!” She turned around, desperately trying to hide her blushing cheeks.

Together the two made their way up where Selena grabbed the letter her father had left and headed outside the house where the driver was waiting for them. As they got into the car, Selena informed the driver of where they needed to go and in a few moments they were speeding down the highway. Once they neared the city, Samson started taking in more and more of it as it passed by them. He saw humans walking around on the streets minding their own business while homeless individuals laid down in between the small areas between buildings.

As they came to a slow stop Samson saw a small boy no older than twelve holding a sign that read ‘Will work for food’ giving Samson a flash of an ugly memory.

“Why aren’t you helping that werewolf boy?” He asked Selena, keeping his eyes glued to the child.

“What werewolf?” Selena asked, looking in the direction he was.

“Must be a rogue, either that or someone probably kicked him out.” Selena said as she studied him, not realizing he was a werewolf.

“How’d you know he was a werewolf?” She asked Samson.

“When you’ve killed as many as I have you can tell who’s what.” Samson said distantly before turning his gaze back onto her.

“So why aren’t you helping him?” Samson asked again.

Selena leaned back against her seat. “What? Is the heartless Tyrant feeling sympathy for someone?” She said snarkily.

“Guess we’re better than you in that regard.” Samson fired back.

“Sure, and when those rogues threaten the existence of your pack, we’ll see who's better then.” Selena said.

Samson turned to look out the window again as the car started moving. He continued to look at the boy until he couldn't anymore. Eventually the car made it through to a better looking area with less homeless individuals. The buildings looked modern, with dozens of low profile signs and popular brand names. The car kept moving until it hit traffic where more humans and werewolves alike started walking the streets. However, each of these individuals were well dressed and looked to be high class.

“Lady Selena, we’re here.” The driver said suddenly as he pulled into the semi-circular driveway of City hall.
