where they belong

"Hey what do you think you are doing? You are just as useless as that sister of yours, How can you mess up something as simple as soup! Why don't you just die?"

Vivian's voice was so loud that the cab driver probably heard what she had said.

Hearing the shouts Nelly was so insensed that she could not hold herself any longer, she pushed the door open and rushed in right at that moment.

"Nonto come here, go get your things and follow me!"

She said that while looking at the Vicious Vivian who could not believe how Nelly came out of nowhere to challenge her.

"Nelisiwe Smith! How dare you come in to this house and challenge my way of doing things, do you think you are better now just because you are wearing new clothes. Who ever gave you those must be out of their mind and straight foolish to even lend you clothes when you can't even feed yourself."

Nelly was surprised at how her Aunt thought but then again it came to her that they didn't have any television in the village, so how would they know that she now can afford to take care of herself.

"Auntie even if I can't feed myself and do not have a place to stay I will not allow you to treat Nonto like a piece of garbage. Why must she be doing all the labour when there's Zara, why can't you get Zara to also help out with the chores"

"My daughter is not a maid, besides she is a student at the beauty college, now tell me how can she be a beautician if she looks like a slave that only knows manual work like the two of you? Now it's either you help your sister out and get this house spotless or take her to the streets where you belong!"

At this point Nelly didn't have the energy to fight with her evil aunt, all she did was smile and said in a low voice.

"To the streets we will go, but don't you ever forget this day."

When she finished talking Nonto had also finished packing the little rags of clothes that she owned, which fitted in a small back pack. She followed her sister out to the car that was parked at the gate.

They both hopped in the car not caring about the angry woman standing in front of the house, who kept pouring curses at them.

"Are you ok miss?"

The cab driver asked in concern, to which Nelly nodded which showed that she was hanging in there.

"Yes, we can go back now."

After a long time of silence, Nonto finally spoke up.

"Sis what are we going to do now?, I'm only just a student I can't help you out with finances."

She knew that her sister was also young, so even if she had found a job, it would be probably at a restaurant or some supermarket which will definitely not be enough to sustain the two of them.

Nelly was only 2 years older than her but life had forced her to grow up, hence she only smiled at her worried looking sister.

" You worry too much, you know I will make a plan. You will get to finish school and most importantly you will go to college."

They paid the driver once they reached the hotel and then got off.

All the way to their hotel room, Nonto had her mouth opened forming an o and the moment they shut the door she let out all her excitement.

"Owh my God, Nelly is this how good your life is? How did you afford this hotel. Goood am I dreaming? Here I was thinking that I will be a burden on you, just look what you can do."

Nelly was amused by her sister's reaction, her reaction was like a confirmation to Nelly that she had done the right thing by bringing her out of that house.

"Don't be silly, I'm still as poor as you know me. Hehehe go shower so that we can go grab something to eat and because I'm in a good mood, I'll let you choose whatever you like to eat."

"Really?"

"Yah, hurry before I change my mind."

Nelly responded as she pushed her sister to the bathroom, but Nonto too didn't forget to warn her before closing the door.

" you better be prepared coz I will not go easy on your pockets, hehehe I what to eat some KFC"

Poor girl, all she knew was the fried chicken from KFC. Although she had never tried it out herself but she had heard some of the kids in her school talk about it and how enjoyable and delicious it was to them , so she too wanted to try it out since an opportunity had presented itself.

Once they both were done with freshening up, they both walked out and headed to KFC.

A few hours after both Nelly and Nonto had left the Smith household, Tony who is Nelly's uncle came back from work in a very sour mood.

He sat quietly at the dinning table, eating his tasteless dinner.

" My husband you will not believe what happened today."

"Vivian, I'm not in the mood for your useless stories, can't you see that?"

"But dad, Mom is trying to tell you that we had an intruder earlier but don't worry, mom chased them away. Now we can live comfortably without worrying about feeding some orphans."

Zara spoke proudly on her mother's behalf, but did not notice the change in her father's face.

"Who did you chase away now, and what do you mean that we will not be feeding more people. Was Nelly here?"

"Yes she did come, she had the nerve to challenge mom's method of disciplining that stupid sister of hers, so guess what? Hehehe mom chase them away. Now they can both live in the streets where they belong."

By the time she finished speaking she was full of smiles, she could not believe that she could finally walk proudly around the village without the embarrassment of having cousins like them.

"Shut up! Vivian, how could you do such a thing? Those are my nieces and we were supposed to treat them like our own, yet you chased them both out of the house. How are we to ask them for help in the future when you failed to treat them with love when they needed it?"

At this point Toni's voice was shaking with anger, mostly it was regret that he was feeling as he was aware at how his wife and daughter were treating his nieces.

"Husband don't you worry, we will never ask for help from those two. They have nothing and are probably starving asking people for food as we speak."

Replied Vivian with a twisted face showing the disgust she had felt about those two people they were discussing.

"Is that so? Why is it that everyone at work are telling me that Nelly Smith from our village was the winner of this year's musical competition. Do you know how much she'll have if that's true, a million Vivian, a million. That's way more than we would ever have in our life time!"

Both Zara and Vivian looked at each other in shock, they could not believe their ears. Nelly the useless girl who could not even afford to go to college was now rich?

"No, impossible! There are many Nelly's around maybe they made a mistake."
