Was abandoned

The room was left in complete silence, none of the two people said a word, it was as if they each were immensed in their own world.

Too many questions ran through their minds but none had the answers to them.

"Was that woman really our mother?"

Finally Nonto broke the silence as she wanted to piece together the dots that seemed to have confused her. She too wanted clarification.

"Our mother died when we were young, that woman is nothing but a stranger to us."

Her anger had clouded her mind as she responded to her younger sister, although she had said that, deep down Nelly knew that was not how she truly felt about the woman.

Even tthough she was still fuming and slightly confused by the event which caught her off guard, Nelly still regarded Adelaide as her mother but she wasn't ready to admit to it.

"I'll bring out the bags then."

When Nonto heard her sister she knew right then that it wasn't the right time to argue and bicker over such, hence  she walked to the room and started bringing out their packed bags setting the up for the road.

When Adelaide finally left Nelly's apartment, she walked up to a car which was parked across the road from the building.

"Did she agree?"

A male voice sounded throughout the car as Adelaide opened the door.

"We don't need her, she's useless and poor."

She responded with a disgusted face while settling herself in the car seat.

"Woman are you that stupid? Didn't you say that she was with Mr Jonas the last time, if that's the case he will take care of her and if he learns that she has my backing he might just help the company out."

"After what I saw just now, I doubt that they have that relationship with Mr Jonas. They were probably talking about work, otherwise why would she live like she was in a homeless shelter?"

Even if that was the case, there were a few  wealthy families that wanted to form business alliance with them and wouldn't mind if their sons took wives from Adelaide's daughters and that would be were Nelly will get in. Instead of marrying of his own daughter to a useless rich boy they would just use Nelly.

The man however did not communicate this with Adelaide but decided not to argue any further with his wife whom he deemed stupid. He started the car and sped off.

Not long after the man and wife had left the parking space another car stopped by and soon after the that Nelly and Nonto came out of the building, both carrying their luggages ready to move on to the next chapter.

They entered the cab and told the driver the address they were going to, to which the man nodded and started the car driving towards that direction.

About twenty minutes later the car then came to a halt and that was when they realized that they had arrived at their destination.

Nelly paid the cab driver then the two sisters stepped out of the car with all their bags with them.

After the car had left Nelly decided to swallow her pride and apologize to her sister.

"hey I shouldn't have said that earlier, I let my feeling get the best of me."

Hearing this Nonto softened a little and turned to look at her, she knew why her sister reacted the way she did but still didn't like the way she snapped at her.

"Did you know from the start that it was really her?"

"No, but she looked like a woman in the picture that I saw on Grandma's phone. Maybe that's why I suspected."

Seeing how heavy spirited her sister looked Nonto decided to let things go.

"Don't worry, that woman isn't our mom. Ehw she's so rude and thinks she owns the world. "

"Hehehe and she certainly doesn't look like us, why should we think that we are related."

Just like that the mood was lifted and the two girls walked in their new home with smiles on their faces not allowing Adelaide to ruin their day any further.

They unpacked their bags in their respective room and when they were done, they decided on buying a few groceries using a phone application as it would be risky for Nelly to step out of the house now, besides the   poor girls were tired from all the packing and house hunting.

"Hey I'll be making your favorite meal, what else would you like me to add?"

Nonto felt bad for her pregnant sister after working so hard the entire day and had provided a home for them, the least she could do was to reward her with a home cooked meal.

"Uuuuh cook for me, are you sure that you will be able to execute it?. I meant Ribs aren't that hard of a dish to make but can also flop easily if you miss the crucial steps."

Nelly surprised that her little sister would want make her favorite meal when she wasn't really the best of cooks, But Nonto insisted of making the meal for them to enjoy.

"You worry too much, what could possibly go wrong?"

"Sigh,Fine fine, just don't forget to potatoes..."

After she relented, she went on to add a few items that she'd use to add on to the dish.

Not long after the order had been placed, Nonto's phone beeped indicating to her that their groceries had been delivered on their door step, hence she went out and took the bags inside.

She started marinating the ribs, preparing them to go in to the oven.

"You know sis, this meal that I am making will be engraved in your heart and you will forever remember me for it."

"Yep, I know I will."

Nelly flashed her a smile as she walked up to the bag of potatoes that were on the counter, she took out a few and started pealing.

They continued cooking while having a light conversation and laughing throughout, and had even forgotten about what had transpired earlier that day.

Once they were done cooking, they set up the table and brought out the dishes then sat down to eat.

"So what do you plan to do when the babies are born, are you going to tell their father about them?"

This was a topic Nelly was dreading to talk about, she wasn't ready to face the man who fathered her babies and surely was not ready to be insulted by him again.

"I think it's better if he doesn't find out."

She answered in a low voice while looking down avoiding eye contact with Nonto.

"Why? Is he that useless, or will he reject them."

"Well don't know him that well and besides it was just a one time thing, I'm pretty sure he doesn't want me to burden him with such a responsibility of a father."

"To hell with that, he has to take responsibility as well. Didn't he know that you'd get pregnant when he didn't use a condom? "

"Owh my God Nonto, we were both Drugged ok?"

This shocked Nonto to the core as she gaped out loud, but couldn't prob any further as Nelly stopped her before she could speak.

" Eat your food or else it will get cold."

Nonto looked at her food for a second then went on to look at her sister,

"you take the first bite, tell me how it taste first."

Nelly took her time as she picked a piece of pork rib, stuffed it in her mouth and slowly chewed in it while looking at her sister.

" and?"

Instead of answering her, Nelly took some of the vegetables that she had prepared and stuffed it in as well. After some time she smiled and said,

"Mhmm tasty, perfect for a pregnant woman."

Hearing this Nonto was pleased and she too picked up a piece of the pork ribs she had prepared and proudly stuffed it in her mouth but was soon disappointed as she chewed.

She quickly reached out for salt and pepper and put it on the remaining meat in her plate,

"Eww this is sooo bland."

Nelly looked at her while laughing her lungs out.
