Mikael was woken up by the melody to “Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf” that was coming from Rayvin’s phone. He felt her move in his arms and he tightened the grip around her, not wanting her to leave his arms.“Max, phone, need to answer,” she said incoherently. “Leave it,” he told her without opening his eyes.“It’s my alpha,” she whined.“I’m your alpha now,” he corrected her with a smile. He heard her let out a giggle, and he opened his eyes to look at her. She was naked, which he approved of, and was squirming to get out of his grip and get to her phone that was on the nightstand on her side of the bed. Her hair was a tousled mess, and she looked breathtaking. “Stop trying to get away from me,” Mikael growled.“Let me go, alpha boy. Alpha Brutus needs to talk to me,” Rayvin smiled at him.The phone stopped ringing, and Mikael smiled back at her.“Problem solved,” he said and hauled her closer and kissed her. The phone started ringing again, and Rayvin let out a giggle again.

“It was unlike any other shift I had seen. It was slow and agonising. The skin rippled and I could see the bones moving. I tried to mind link with him, to tell him to just give in to it, to stop fighting. But there was no consciousness there, just a sea of never-ending pain,” Rayvin let out a soft whimper. Mikael felt helpless. He knew she needed to let this out, but he could feel her pain and the distress she felt as she relived her memory. He wanted nothing more than to put all the pain on himself instead. “It took him almost an hour to complete the shift. When he did, he was a pure animal, driven by a need to kill and maim. Rayvin looked at Mikael with a raised eyebrow and he felt a little embarrassed over his reaction, but just a little. “Do you object to that?” Rayvin asked.“Yes!” both Mikael and Ben said in unison. “Oh dear goddess, the babies we are mated to,” Diana shook her head. “Why can’t we go with you?” Ben asked.“Because if a man were to approach us in a club, what would you do?” Diana asked.“Keep him away,” Mikael said, and Ben nodded enthusiastically.“Right,” Rayvin said. Mikael could see that she had to hold back her amusement. “So that wouldn’t work,” Diana said.“And besides, we need backup in case something goes wrong,” Rayvin added. “If you feel that is below you, we can always take a couple of warriors with us,” Diana suggested.Both Ben and Mikael grunted, the women exchanged a look and Mikael believed their mind linked as well, and then they laughed. “That settles it then. As soon as Mikael stepped inside the house, he could smell the food cooking and it made his mouth water. He hurried up to the kitchen and saw Rayvin standing at the kitchen counter, cutting bread. He tried to stealthily sneak up on her, but as he was halfway there, she turned her head and smiled at him.“Hi,” he said and closed the distance between them to give her a kiss. “Hi,” she said as they broke apart. Mikael wrapped his arms around her waist and rested his chin on her shoulder so he could look at what she was doing. “What are you cooking and how can I help?” he asked.“Tomato soup with grilled cheese. You can take out the cheese and cut it. How many sandwiches do you want?” “Um, how much bread do we have?” he asked as he walked over to the fridge. He heard her giggle and then he heard her slicing the bread again. “I talked to Gray and Bella. Rayvin was sitting on Mikael’s lap in his office in the house as she dialled her former alpha. “Luna Rayvin,” alpha Brutus answered. Rayvin lost her train of thought. It was the first time anyone had used her full title like that.“Alpha Brutus, Ray and I are calling to discuss a situation,” Mikael said as he stroked her arm.“Alpha Mikael, congratulations on your mating. As Rayvin got ready for her date, she started getting butterflies in her stomach. She told herself that she was being silly. Mikael and she had done a lot more than going out to eat. There was no reason for her to be nervous. They had marked each other for the goddess’ sake. But still. The butterflies refused to go away. As they were just going to the diner, Rayvin decided to go for casual but sexy. The tight, ripped, black jeans looked good together with a cream, oversized knitted sweatshirt that left one of her shoulders bare. Underneath she had a strapless white bustier that she looked forward to Mikael discovering. She went downstairs to wait for Mikael; and got stuck looking out of the big window in the livingroom. Once again, she found herself unable to look away from the view of the pack house and the village. Not even the soft steps that told her Mikael was approaching made her look away. Rayvin was looking into an impressively large walk-in closet filled to the brim with party clothes. “This is… impressive. I thought Max went overboard with the closet in our bedroom. But this, it’s almost twice the size,” she told Diana and Milly.“When I moved in this was the second bedroom,” Milly said, walking into the closet and looked around. “I told you this was the best place to go,” Diana told Rayvin.“I should never have doubted you.”“What are you looking for?” Milly asked.“The luna and I need clothes for when the three of us go out tonight. We need to blend in,” Diana explained. Milly nodded and looked at the two other women with an assessing look. “We aren’t that far apart when it comes to sizes. You are both a little taller than me, so pants might be an issue, and luna you are a little more filled out on top. But I think it’s doable,” she concluded. “I think the best thing is for you to pick out some outfits for us, three each, that we can try out. You know best what

“Millard and Janice will drive the cars, Diana, Milly and I will go in one and you boys will go in the other. You arrive five minutes ahead of us and will take up a place to stand guard. We will arrive and hang around the bar, looking like we are having fun. Millard and Janice will act as backup. Have I forgotten something?” Rayvin asked Mikael, Ben and Diana. They had been forming their strategy for a couple of hours and had finally reached something that they all could live with.“Sounds right,” Diana said with a nod. “I still don’t see why we have to take different cars. I don’t like it,” Ben objected, placing his arm around Diana’s shoulders.“I agree,” Mikael said, pulling Rayvin closer to him. Rayvin and Diana exchanged a look and rolled their eyes. Rayvin thought they were sweet, but she also knew they couldn’t give in to their need to protect.“Because we don’t want anyone to think we are together. The human won’t approach us if he sees us hanging around you two,” she explain
