I swallowed, “Then shouldn’t I be staying…a-away from you?”

He stared at me in silence, his eyes reflecting as two deep pools with raging storms rising within, one that would engulf me without warning. “Did I ever harm you in any way?” he asked with a hard look and I bit my inner cheek.

“No,” I mumbled, but the answer was pretty clear in my head. He never had. “But that doesn’t mean you wouldn’t, in the near future,” I licked my dry upper lip and slowly lifted my head to look at him.

A sigh escaped his mouth, “Now, that is true enough,” his words caused my heart to hitch, an unpleasant feeling veiled upon it. He was not going to defend himself?

“So, there are chances that you can?” I asked with a raised brow.

He clicked his tongue, “I do not make empty promises, Avery.”

My eyes widened and I straightened my back against the seat, disappointment etched to my emotions. That was not how anyone else in love would speak. “Then how am I supposed to be with you?”
