Chapter 10

She looked ultra-casual in simple jeans, trousers rolled up. Her canvas shoes were rather beat up. She still looked feminine in her white T-shirt and a loose-fitting coat, but it was very different from how she used to dress.

“After giving birth to Luna, I felt that it will be more comfortable to wear laid-back clothes like these. When I go to work, I wear business suits so I want to relax completely when I get home from work.”

Vera Qin didn’t feel that she had changed anything. But if she really had changed, maybe it was the suffering that she had gone through. It made her mature and more stable.

“By the way, are you staying for good?”

They spoke in low voices, so as not to wake the sleeping child.

“I don’t know yet. The company sent me over for one year. I’m just here to give them technical guidance. I don’t know how the management will decide after that.”

Vera lightly stroked her child’s head as she lay on her lap.

Beijing was her birthplace, and it was her home. She wanted to stay, but she didn’t know if she could.

“Don’t go. If they don’t allow you, just quit your job and start again. After all, this is your home. You can’t keep wandering. Luna is growing and needs a good, stable environment.”

The year has just begun, and Daniella was worried that her friend might leave again.

She’d left her before, she didn’t want to have to say goodbye again. She had missed her very badly.

“Besides, I have to return to Aunt and, I can’t leave them behind.”

Vera loved this city, but it also gave her the most painful memories.

“Well, you’ll change your mind. Anyway, one year is enough for you to consider. By the way, they don’t know you flew here ahead of schedule, right?”

“I don’t think so, I changed the flight without notifying them.”

Looking at the bustling street outside the car window, Vera answered a little absent-mindedly.

Four years ago, she had been humiliated. Even now, some things still hung over her head. It wasn’t an easy decision for her to come back.

  ...

Qiao Group’s Headquarters is located in the prosperous business district of Beijing. It is a landmark building, and the Qiao family owns it. This family is one of the richest in the city.

As the capital of the country, Beijing is the economic, political, and cultural center, and it’s also where most of the technological innovation of the country took place. It is the a window for the world to look into this country.

Dominating the economy of such a city, Qiao’s influence is beyond imagination. It has subsidiaries all throughout the world.

What powerful person led such a huge company?

A group of people walked in the awe-inspiring grand reception hall on the first floor.

The highest-ranking man in the company wore a black suit. Broad-shouldered, he looked strong and heroic. He had a chiseled face, and deep eyes, and had an inviolable kingly demeanor.

He was Sean Qiao, the person in charge of the Qiao Group. This was his kingdom, and from here, he controlled an empire that he’d expanded around the world.

Sean Qiao took an exclusive elevator straight to the president’s office.

The elevator door opened, and Sean Qiao strode to the desk. Briskly, he pressed some keys on a tablet.

In a few seconds, the huge solid wood door of the president’s office was pushed open and he was met by a group of uniformed employees. They filed in neatly, and began to report on their work.

  “Mr. Qiao.”

The female secretary Kendra Su was the last to come in, but her report was the most urgent.

Sean Qiao raised his cold eyes.

“Mr. Qiao, the person sent to the airport this morning was not able to pick up the Technical Guide from MT.”

  Sean Qiao frowned.

The female secretary seemed to have gotten used to Sean Qiao’s indifference, and calmly continued to report. He cut her off.

  “Explain.”

“Sir, the person who went to the airport did a little investigation. This engineer had arrived three days ago but didn’t contact the company.”

A woman’s clear and soft voice rang out. “Sorry to interrupt, I am the technical guide sent by MT.”

Sean looked at her. A tall, strikingly beautiful woman was walking towards him gracefully.

The woman wore wide-leg trousers and a pair of high-heeled shoes. She had on a white blouse with puffed sleeves, and the her whole outfit looked very well-put together.

The woman had a lightly made-up face, shaped like a goose egg. Her eyes were crystal clear, and her nose was straight and beautiful. The corners of her mouth were raised in a faint smile. As she approached him, her smile deepened.

Her glance and smile had the sophistication and elegance of a professional career woman, but she also gave off an intellectual, nearly academic vibe.

Her appearance, and her confidence, stunned the entire office.

The woman locked eyes with the central figure. There was a hint of surprise on her face.

If she was not mistaken, the central man was the father of the little boy who she had met on the plane three days ago. She remembered looking at the little boy’s expensive clothes, the way he spoke and behaved, and she thought he was from a well-off family. She did not expect that he was that rich.

Although Vera recognized the man, she did not mention it.
