CHAPTER SIX

*****

Mr. Wright laughed hard as he listened to Amanda express herself in the interview. This surprised Tony who sat across from Amanda at the conference table for he knew all she did was avoiding the real question she was asked.

Tony noticed Amanda was playing on the Chairman’s common sense which was odd because he had always known the Chairman to be an impervious man. This angered Tony so much, his head was in discord.

Amanda had never worked in any type of company before, she had no concrete knowledge about business except playing the role of a business woman or a secretary in a movie, which, at this point, she planned to use the ideas from her business movies as her strategy in reality.

In reality, the only other job she engaged in, aside acting, was assisting her dad in his gym but that wasn’t something she wanted Mr. Wright to know so, she locked that information in the safest part of her sub conscious instead.

“So Miss Amanda, are you aware that the position you applied for is a secretary position?” Tony asked again, perusing through her résumé with the intention of avoiding her stiff glare.

“Yes, I’m aware.” She Swiftly replied.

“According to your résumé, you literally have not worked as a secretary before.”

“Well, em—“

“You have no working experience at all.” He added, interrupting her.

“Uh, I work. I'm not an idle citizen, I have a successful career. I’m an actress remember?" She defended her reputation immediately. Amanda felt the fuse box in her brain flicker. Was this man trying to call her lazy?

“This is reality not one of your movies, Miss.” He said, aiming to hide his fury. “You have no experience being a secretary and you basically don’t even know what they do.” He looked her straight in the eye this time. Matching a glare with glare, he already had started to dislike her.

“Don’t ruin this for me, angry man. I so pray he’s not the one I’ll have to work for. What’s his problem.” She said hopefully to herself.

Tony realized that his plans will come to ruin if she was employed. It was too expensive to risk so, he tried everything to make Mr. Wright see reasons why she was not qualified for the job.

“For experience, a girl has to start somewhere right? And besides I did my homework.” she said then faced Mr. Wright who was seated quietly, observing the whole thing and at the moment, contributing nothing.

“Homework?” Tony echoed.

“Yes!” she replied with a frown, trying to keep her cool.

“Your job is quite ordinary. All there is to do is to answer the phone, make appointment and very importantly, keep your Boss organize. Seeing that you’ve haven’t even worked in a real business company before, I’m not sure you can handle that.” He snorted.

She gave him a bizarre look and sniggered “Trust me, I’m a fast learner.”

And she was right. But, she desperately wanted to end that interview soon so she could prove her competence to Mr. Wright.

“Why should we hire you?” He asked, testing her limit

Now,  this was the worst interview Amanda had ever had. Who else had an Oscar at infuriating others? She never had imagined getting a job in the business world subsumed exhausting process with Tony incarnate as it anchor.

“I’m efficient. ” She shortly replied.

“WHAT?” Tony yelled.

“What’s his problem?” she asked rhetorically,  turning er baffled gaze at the observant Mr. Wright.

Mr. Wright stared back at her for a while then exhaled. He sat up straight and cleared his throat “Ok, ok.” He Interrupted “As much as I would love to listen to both of you fail miserably to understand each other, I have an important meeting to attend right about now.” He continued,  smiling.

“I’m sorry sir, I wasted you time.” Tony apologized, bowing his head slightly to his uncle.

“No problem son. Welcome Amanda to the Wright Publishing.” Stretching his arm to her after which he stood up straight.

That was it, she was in. She almost jumped rejoicing but seeing the angry look on Tony's face gave her the perfect satisfaction. Also standing from her chair, she voiced “Oh, thank you so much Mr. Wright, I won’t disappoint you.” She said happily grabbing his hand.

“You will be good for my son. I hope you enjoy working for him.” He said “Call Nelson.” He ordered Tony.

Tony pick up his phone,  dialed Nelson's number and asked him to come to the conference room “Nelson will show you to your office.” He said blankly then, followed the chairman out of the room.

“Huh, I can’t believe I’ll be working with angry Tony.” Amanda said sadly as she fell on her chair with her face down on the table.

“Who said you’d be working for Tony?” Nelson voiced from behind, startling Amanda. She was so deep in thought that she didn't hear anyone walk in.

“Oh, it’s you.” She said, putting one had on her chest, feeling it beating fast, she tried to calm down. Exhaling slowly, she then got comfortable on her chair.

“Yes it’s me. Are you expecting someone else?” He asked, settling on one of the empty chair.

“No, I’m sorry.” She apologized.

“You shouldn’t be.” He added.

“I'm not desperate to get this job, I only wanted to get busy. And to say the truth, I won’t enjoy working for Tony.” She pout.

“You won’t be working for Tony.” Nelson said with a smile crossing his face.

“Are you sure cause, I heard the chairman say I’ll be working for his son and before he said so, he called angry Tony, son.” She pointed out

“True, you will be working for his son but not Tony.” Nelson affirmed

“The chairman has two sons?” She asked confused.

“Technically, yes but Tony isn’t one of them.”

“I’m lost.” She admitted. Almost giving up attempt to understand further, she heard Nelson say.

“Amanda” He called out her name, laughing. “Mr. Wright has two sons. His eldest son chose his dream of playing Professional football over his father’s company and his youngest son forfeited his dream of playing Professional football to work in his father’s company as the chief editor of silver line books." Nelson tried as much as he could to  summarize the family background.

“Is he the one I’ll be working for, I mean, the second son?” she asked curiously.

Amanda would have ended the question and answer session but,  she was just being Amanda. She wanted to be sure of what she was getting herself into and Nelson was only a willing guide.

“Yes. And now I need to take you to his office which of course is your office too.” He added, rising to his feet.

“Who is Tony then?” She asked, following Nelson to her feet too, who then led her out of the conference room.

“Mr. Tony Wright is the Chairman’s nephew. His late father, Mr. Wright younger brother was the managing director of the Wright publishing and now, Tony is occupying his late father's seat.”

“How do you know all these? You are only an intern.” Recalling that Nelson had told her so earlier.

“We are family friends, my family and the Wright family.” He said smiling

Amanda nodded, finally understanding the family tree. Then her countenance mirrored a sudden disgust she felt. “I don’t like him.”

“Who?” Nelson asked, stepping into the elevator after Amanda.

“Tony.” She sighed in displeasure.

“Really? Already?” He asked surprised.

Tony was never any one's fan.  He found a way to earn spite from every one he met.  Most people just thought he had a bad childhood that's why he was the way he was. Competitive, cold hearted and mischievous. Those were the trait people,  or at least Wright Junior saw in him.

“I like you and I hope I’ll like my boss too." She said, smiling

“You like me.” He said with both eyes wide open as if about to burst.

She complimented her statement with a cherry on top “I do. We could best friends at work.”

Jumping euphorically like a child whose mom graced with a piece of candy “Oh my, I will love to capture this moment,” He took out his phone pressing the camera icon “Do you mind?” He asked.

“Of course not.” She permitted. Coming closer to him, she smiled while he took a selfie of both of them —together— in the elevator. He posted it immediately on i*******m

“How old are you?” it was an inappropriate question but she was only curious.

“That’s an odd question to ask a man” He replied calmly but maintained his charming sound while leading Amanda out of the elevator.

“A man?”

“I’m just messing with you. I’m nineteen.” He said smiling,  leading the way with her behind him.

“You are a man alright. Girlfriend?” Another inappropriate question but she couldn't help but laugh when she saw the look on his face when he turned around.

“Amanda!”

“What?” She asked still laughing.

Shaking his head,  he announced “We are here.” Standing in front of a transparent office door. He opened the door gently then, he made know the presence of Amanda to the man who sat eyes-glued to his computer.

“Mr. Wright Junior, your new secretary is here.” Nelson Announced again Loudly this time, since he couldn't earn his attention with the first call.

Nelson gestured Amanda to come into the office then, he followed after her. Closing the door behind them gently. The second call couldn't succeed in bringing Wright Junior's consciousness back to the room.

While the man sat like he was working on something really important on his computer, Amanda had spent so much time admiring the fine man seated in front of her, she literally got lost in sight of him.

He was wearing a light blue, buttoned-up shirt but Amanda couldn't stop her little mind from fantasizing on how perfect he was beneath it. He was manly, a jaw-dropper. His broad shoulders were only a fragment of his majestic physique. His defined cheekbones carved prominently towards a sturdy jaw and Amanda watched his thick, slightly carved brows stayed true on his face,  giving his mariner-blue eyes a dark mysterious shade as he focused on the screen in front of him. Handsome was an understatement, the man before her was made in perfection.

Amanda knew for sure that If she was standing close to Mr. Wright Junior, it would have been difficult to fight the urge to feel the skin of his strong arm underneath her soft, delicate fingers. But reality was unkind to her, for she knew she couldn't enjoy that sensation because she stood far away from him. For now, she could only imagine being sweet off to wonderland in his strong arms

“What is wrong with me?”  She blurted. She immediately folded her lips together hoping she wasn't heard.

Wright Junior had managed to Seduce Amanda just by doing nothing.  He was a charming sight for soar eyes. Amanda loved the way his hair curved at both sides of his face and wavered down to his neck.

But rudely interrupting her daydream was Nelson who cleared his throat and thickened his not so deep voice when he yelled "Junior!"

Like waking a man from unconscious land,  Junior lurched on his seat when he finally caught sight of the two people standing in his office.

“Now we have your attention at last.” Nelson said. “This is Amanda, your new secretary. Of course you should know her, she’s a famous movie star and your dad already have approve of her.” He added.

Standing to his feet to acknowledge her presence, Amanda's eyes followed and his every features fell into form. "Damn, he's sexy" His physique struck her in awe. He was a turn head and Amanda was sure he knew that.

Amanda couldn’t understand what she felt until she heard his fruity deep voice “Hi, welcome.” He shortly said with an outstretched hand.

“He’s tall and talks sexy too? That, I like.” She smiled to herself, feeling butterflies dancing in her stomach as she walked forward and took his hand. Finally, she had the opportunity to feel his skin and damn, it was just as she'd imagined.

There was something about him that made him seem familiar but Amanda couldn’t place her finger on it. She quickly waved the thought and smiled ludicrously, unable to control herself.

“Amanda, this is your boss, Mr. Wright Junior and this will be your office.” Nelson interrupted, obviously noticing Amanda's nervous expression.

She felt a little shy all of a sudden “Thank you Nelson.” She quietly replied, gratefully

“You are welcome Amanda. We may be floors apart from each other but we will definitely continue our chit-chat.” He assured.

“We definitely will.” She agreed. Talking with Nelson was easy and keep I'm as a friend will be an important advantage for her.

“Ok, bye for now. Enjoy your new office.” He said finally before leaving the office.

“I will.” She slowly replied, her eyes tailing him from the transparent door.

“Where to begin?” Wright Junior called her attention back into the office.

“Hmm.” She sounded.

Junior watched the dazzling brown orb in Amanda's bulging, yet alluring upturned eyes, exploring his disorganized office

“One can never notice how big this office really is through all the jumbled files. Does he really hold meetings in here?” she wondered to herself then fixed her gaze back at him. She quickly noticed how uncomfortable she had made him feel when she looked around.

“Your cubicle is over there.” He pointed to the only empty desk at the left end of his office.

“Thank you Mr. Wright, I hope to be the best secretary you ever had.” That sounded weird even to her ears.

Still, it made Junior laugh aloud. If only she knew what happened to the last one. “It’s Mr. Wright Junior” He corrected, returning to his seat.

“Hmm?”

“I’m sorry I don’t want you to confuse my name with my Dad’s. I was named after him; the junior is the only thing differentiating both names. I hope you don’t mind?”

“Me? Not at all” She said smiling coyly at him and then making herself comfortable on the empty cubicle he had shown her
