Hayden's POV
“So, the first phase of your plan is now finally complete, congratulations man...”
My best friend said sipping his glass of whiskey, the hotel bar was becoming stuffier by the second I knew we should have reserved this place but my best friend had insisted that we didn't because he wanted to find some cheap girl to pick up for the night.
“It's hardly time to even begin celebrating, I'm still very far from what I actually want, Ray.”
“Well the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step my dear friend...” he said as he signaled the attacks will refill his glass again.
“But why did you lie to her that you were going on a business trip?"
I knew that he was eventually going to ask this question.
” There's no need for me to be around her if she isn't going to be of use to me yet.“I replied the same glass of whiskey that I had been holding while my friend was on his third.
”True, true...“He nodded.
” But that doesn't really answer my question: why did you have to tell her you were going somewhere else when you were just going to be in town?“
”Does that even matter?"
I groaned.
“I didn't know that you just called me here for a long interview if I did I would have just remained in bed,”
After I said that, a sudden silence penetrated the both of us in the midst of our conversation.
“Hayden I'm worried about you, how can you even keep going on with this when you can't stand to be in the same room as that woman? Can't you just let it go? You don't need to...”
“This is the last time we're going to be having this conversation, you should know that I can never let go of this...”
My fingers gripped the glass in their grasp with all but enough force to shatter it into pieces.
“Even if I wanted to forget about it every single night every SINGLE night, for the past 19 years I've dreamt about it... I was relieved the day that my entire life went into flames."
My hands were now shaking with fury as flashes of that terrible day came to my mind when I was nothing more than a child. They didn't say anything about the dark world that surrounded him.
”Hayden...“
My friend's grip on my shoulder brought me back to the present.
I shook off his hand.
” You can keep drinking by yourself but I'm going to bed now,“
He suddenly grabbed me by my arm.
” Now where do you think you're running off to without a cute chick to warm up your bed?"
“I can't...”
“Why? are you married now?"
He said in a joking tone.
”Yes,“I said simply.
His eyes widened up as if they were going to pop right out of their sockets.
” That was one of the few conditions that she stated in the contract- We would not cheat on each other...“
I said to him getting off the bar stool.
”I'll see you later then.“
Sarah Lane.
Well now *officially* Sarah Smith, but she will only remain as my wife on paper and nothing else.
After all, she was nothing more than a master pawn for my plan and that was exactly what she would remain. All that was left was for her to recover fully so the next phase of my plan would go into motion.
As I was about to rest my head on my pillow the ringing of my phone brought me back to full consciousness again, I groaned who was disturbing my sleep so late at nig-
”Sorry, have you slept?“
Oh, it was my *wife*
” I was about to when I got a sudden unexpected call...“I could not help the tone of irritation that slipped into my voice as I spoke to her. She either didn't notice it or maybe she just chose to ignore it, either way I was relieved that she didn't ask.
” I just wanted to ask how your flight was...“
I glanced at the clock. It was already thirty minutes after one. Had she actually stayed up this late just to ask me how my *flight* was?
”It was as comfortable as any first class flight would be, anything else?"
“Have you eaten?"
As if on cue my stomach growled as she asked that question.
”I guess not, you should get something to eat.“
My fingers gripped the phone tight, just hearing her voice alone was enough to make my blood boil and force my stomach to twist up.
” It's already late, there's no point in doing that now...“
Why was I given to explaining myself to her in the first place at all? I felt like punching myself.
” Look, Sarah, I think there are some things we need to make clear and some boundaries that need to be established...“
”Go on...“she probed me
”This is not a real marriage..."I stated clearly.
"In case that was not clear to you before, note that I did not ask you to sign that contract because I was interested in you, honestly you are not even my type of lady...“
I was expecting her to become provoked but she was still listening to me calmly and that made my blood boil even more.
” So what are you trying to say with all this?"She asked me and I said without missing a beat.
“We are only husband and wife on paper and nothing else, so there is no need to call me in the early hours of the morning to ask whether I had a good flight or if I've eaten... Such sentimental courtesy doesn't need to exist between us.”
After I said this she just sighed.
“Even so, we are not enemies are we? asking how you are shouldn't be overstepp-"
I cut the call at that moment.
This woman.
I needed to teach her her place.
Sarah."Hello…" My voice echoed again, but instead, I got no reply. It immediately dawned on me that he ended the call seconds ago.Taking a deep breath, I fell down back on the huge bed, while facing the ceiling and rolling my hands around to feel the emptiness of it.What was the essence of sleeping all alone in such huge bed, when I have no one by my side, and even now my contract husband keeps acting weird and pushing me away.My thoughts suddenly drifted off too Clark, and my grip on the bed spread tightened. I found a tear escaping through the corners of my eyes, as I recalled what he did to me. Most especially my sister Becky. I trusted her, and spoilt her so much that I never imagined she would ever betray me this way.Suddenly, I felt my throat dry up, and I instantly sat up back on the bed. Reaching for my crutches, I got up from the bed and started towards the door because I needed a glass of water.I could have easily just reached for the bell on the table close to me and
"What?" I asked Kira, dumbfounded with what I had just heard now.She smiled at me, nodding her head again to confirm that it was all true."How? I don't even understand.""Mr Hayden gave the order, Mrs Sarah" Kira replied.I was still trying to process what I had just heard. Just how powerful was Hayden, and just how mysterious is he. One more important thing, why is he doing all this when he knows absolutely nothing about me.I watched them all leave one after the other, and that was when I realized my sister was standing just a distance away from me.The look on her face wasn't pleasing, and I was quick to guess she was quite surprised to see me in a stunning outfit as well as in the same shopping mall with her.Part of my face was covered with a white handkerchief, and I wore a long black pop sock as well in order to cover part of my bruises, but I was sure Becky recognised me even with all that.Feeling thankful that I left my crutches back in the car, I let out a smirk, startin
HaydenEyes fixed on my laptop, my phone started binging like I was expecting it to."Greedy set of fools." I whispered, and picked up my phone."It's just like you expected sir, what should we do?" I remained silent for a few seconds, thinking of what next to do."Make it false, and ensure the rest does the same as well." I replied, and hunged up the call immediately.Staring back at my laptop, I could only think of one person. How was she? And most especially, how did she feel seeing her sister so suddenly. My hands went to my phone again, but then I dropped it back. I should just concentrate and leave Sarah out of my mind. But within 2 seconds, I found myself dialing her number."Fuck."The call ended immediately, when I pressed the red button, and one way or the other I fell back on the bed roughing my hair.My eyes closed, it was opened back by the ringtone of my phone."Hell no."I stared at it for a whole minutes before deciding to pick up the call.Placing it on my ear, I he
HaydenA knock was rasped on my door, making me raise my head to stare at it."Come in." The door opened the next second, and I saw my private investigator walk into my office." Have a seat."He sat down like I had offered, and brought out something from a leather bag of his."Here it is sir, everything you need to know about Becky Lane." He said, dropping a file as well as a tab on the table.I took down my glasses, and then picked up the file first."Look into her husband next, and find out the minor places he goes to.""Yes sir."I was still busy checking out the pictures of Becky, as well as some minor infos about her, but then I raised my head to stare at him."What about my wife?" I asked."Nothing to be suspicious of for now, she's absolutely fine, and I have my boys keeping their eyes on her just in case of any attack. No need to be worried.""I'm not worried, I am just being careful for certain reasons.""Good. You can go now." He rose up on his feet, striding towards the
SarahMy entire body shivered as I walked in along with Clara. I felt uncomfortable, and I could feel the heavy, hard stare people gave me as I walked past them most especially the men around.Their looks only made me wonder if I went too far with my dressing. I was on a crop top, with a pink tight mini skirt, long black heels with heavy makeup. My eyes went round the bar to watch out for Hayden, but no matter how much I looked, there was not even a sight of him anywhere."Let's go order Sarah." I heard Clara's voice, as my eyes kept searching for Hayden."Huh?""Sarah, are you alright? You're literally shaking right now." Clara said, sounding so worried. Her words made me take in deep breaths, that would keep me calm, but nothing was working. Never have I been to a bar before, and it creeps me out especially with the gazes of countless people on me."I'm fine Clara. Over there!" "There's a spare seat over there, let's go." I said to Clara, although my eyes were still desperately s
SarahI was really sure Clark heard it too, and because of that, he gave me a hard stare once his eyes caught Hayden."Let's see what you can do now." I said, boldly staring into his deep brown eyes this time."Listen to me Sarah." He whispered"I really don't know how you got to know a man so powerful, but if any word spills out from your damn lips, then consider your sister dead the next second. I'm not the same Clark I used to be Sarah, right now I'm a big bad wolf who'll come after your entire family if you spill out anything."My heart returned back to beating harder, and as he spoke, my words were caught in my throat."Good girl." He said to me, at the same time, patting my shoulders before walking away.As I turned to stare at him walking away, I also saw Hayden walk past him.Today definitely is the worst day of my life."Sarah, are you alright." I heard Hayden's voice as I tried coming back to my senses."Did he hurt you?" He said again"Get your hands off me, and stay away f
Sarah..My whole body made a little kind of strange movement when he said that. I was still so scared of the media. Nevertheless, something made me happy and I couldn't figure out if it was to pay back Clark, or it was because the marriage was something I was desperately waiting for."You think it's time?" I asked. He clicked his tongue at first, waiting for a long second before replying"You want to get things done as soon as possible, right?'' he asked.I nodded my head in agreement, but why couldn't I tell him about what I heard and found out about Clark. Why the hell am I so scared?"Yes, I do."Then, he smiled again, crossing his right leg against the other. I watched him scan through his wristwatch,"It's late, go to bed now. Tomorrow might just be a long day.""Goodnight." I said, just as he stood up to leave the room, but I got no reply from him.Like a cold dice, he just walked away, closing the door behind himself.I sat on the bed, thinking back to what Clark had said to me
"What??" I asked, wondering what he meant by that, or if he knew what I did back in the hotel."Nothing, I know absolutely nothing." I replied, but my worst mistake was the fact that I didn't look shock when I heard Hayden Smith's name."You're lying to me Becky."I could feel his heavy eyes on me as he spoke,"I have my men watching your every movement, and so it's useless lying to me." In a matter of seconds, he yanked my hair, pulling me back and grabbing my throat."Clark… please stop it." I cried, praying silently that he wouldn't strangle me to death. Fear was an entity in my eyes, and I knew Clark wasn't going to let me go that easily, at least not this time."Listen to me Becky." I heard his voice when he leaned closer to me, our eyes just an inch apart from each other, and his hot breath feeling my tensed breath as wellI nodded immediately because I was slowly becoming weak with the intensity of his grip on my neck.He sneered, "Don't you ever, I mean ever do anything stupi
