"hey! How are you doing? Been a while" Samuel chirped when Veronica approached Nancy outside the class. After torturing both of them for endless hours, he was still not satisfied. He took the drilling machine once again and dug holes in their hands and arms. The splashes of blood stained the brick walls and his own clothes but nothing could calm his anger. His own standing beside him were disgusted and scared to the pit of their stomach. The very next morning, he accompanied her to her hostel. Much to her dismay, everyone gaped at her when she got down the car with him by her side. He wanted to take her to her room himself but she denied and asked him to leave her be. He respected her decision and left her in the hallway. She walked up the stairs to her room, not paying any attention to the girls who whispered in each other's ears. As soon she placed her bag on the dresser and sat down on the bed, Stacy stomped in. "Miss Veronica! May I remind you of the rules of the hostel which you broke twice?" She deadpanned in a terrible voice. Neon lights making her eyes hurt, she lowered her gaze as she walked inside. The man closed the door shut as she was forced to move forward and couldn't look back. Bernard was sitting on a couch, as usual his presence was dark and stark. She tried to see his face but couldn't. "How was your day Miss Veronica?" He asked in a husky voice. "It was fine Sir......." As much as she wanted to ask him about the reason for calling her, she hesitated. He was cold and merciless but also never hurt her. She wondered how he killed those two men. He gave her a room on the ground floor while his was upstairs, on the first floor. The large penthouse even had a fountain in the middle and a large balcony where all of the city could be viewed. "Can I pay you after I get my salary?" She asked him as he showed her the room. "I don't think I asked you about money yet" he replied, not liking how she was so worried to pay him. "You might not need my money, but I will not stay if I won't pay you" Veronica told him, as she placed her suitcase inside which his butler bought just a few minutes ago. "God really made women complex! I didn't say I won't take it or if I don't need it. I said I haven't asked you yet so you shouldn't be worried about it. You can pay me whenever you'll be able to" Bernard raised his hands in air and gave up. She felt embarrassed for her rash reply. "I think you should rest now! From that onwards she never protested again as Bernard dropped her to university everyday and when she would get off, his driver would come to pick her up and drop at the hotel. Life became easy for her momentarily. She did not realize how much she was getting used to all the luxuries he had provided her. Unknowingly everything was becoming a part of her life. On weekends they would spend some time talking over lunch, sometimes they would sit together in the library as he would work on his laptop and she would complete her assignments. On late, cold nights after work, they would sit together for a cup of coffee in the lawn and gaze at the shining stars. They both started to like each other's company, as she realised that he was really a decent man and nothing grumpy as she used to think. Waves crashing against the rocks and the moon seeping through the clouds. The sea roared against the calm sky and it was all a melody to hear for the ones who could understand.
